6. Role of soil organic matter for immobilisation of metals : treatment of leachate from MSWI bottom ashes
Abstract : In this thesis, the focus is laid on the ability of natural organic matter (OM) to serve as a metal stabilising agent. The metal contaminants investigated arise from the MSWI bottom ash leachate. Besides the high content of metals, elevated pH and salinity are characteristic for ash leachate that, in turn, can alter the functionality of OM. READ MORE

7. Recycling of green liquor dregs in cover application on acid generating mine waste
Abstract : The mining industry generates massive amounts of waste that without treatment and in contact with atmospheric oxygen can cause the formation of acid rock drainage (ARD). In Sweden, the most common reclamation measure for mine waste is to apply a multi-layer cover on top of the waste deposit. READ MORE

8. Grasslands in a changing climate : Summer drought and winter warming effects on grassland vegetation
Abstract : Grasslands harbour a high biodiversity of both plants and animals, and they provide many ecosystem services such as fodder production, pollination, and carbon storage. Climate change is likely to alter grassland ecosystems, with the effects varying according to the exact nature and timing of changes. READ MORE

9. Fractionation of Cu and Fe isotopes in metal-rich mine sites : biotic and abiotic processes
Abstract : After mineral exploitation the residual grinded and milled material, rich in sulphide minerals and heavy metals, is often left exposed to the atmospheric variables. This weathered mine waste material can lead to the formation of acid mine drainage (AMD) which has negative effects to the environment. READ MORE

10. Plant-availability of phosphorus removed from wastewater by different processes
Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to investigate the plant-availability of P removed from wastewater by different processes, with focus on agronomic aspects. Short-term P availability was assessed by greenhouse studies, utilizing four different filter substrates and a sludge-recovered iron phosphate. READ MORE
