  1. 21. Laboratory studies of forbidden decay processes in stored ions

    Author : Jonas Gurell; Sven Mannervik; Ahmed Al-Khalili; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic physics; Atomfysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Measurements of atomic and ionic data has been an active research area since the beginning of spectroscopic studies. The experimental data deduced from thesestudies are of great interest for our understanding of fundamental as well as applied physics. READ MORE

  2. 22. Optical Characterization and Optimization of Display Components : Some Applications to Liquid-Crystal-Based and Electrochromics-Based Devices

    Author : Iryna Valyukh; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Ewa Wäckelgård; Hans Arwin; Ola Hundery; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ellipsometry; liquid crystal; LCD; optical anizotropy; electrochromic; inverse problems; Optics; Optik; Optical physics; Optisk fysik; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik; Information Systems; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : This dissertation is focused on theoretical and experimental studies of optical properties of materials and multilayer structures composing liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and electrochromic (EC) devices. By applying spectroscopic ellipsometry, we have determined the optical constants of thin films of electrochromic tungsten oxide (WOx) and nickel oxide (NiOy), the films’ thickness and roughness. 3. 23. The optical properties of automatically darkening welding filters based on liquid crystal technology

    Author : Stephen Palmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the problem of the poor optical angular properties displayed by automatically darkening welding filters that are based on liquid crystal technology. It is shown that by reducing thetwist-angle present in the liquid crystal cell to below that of 90° together with employment of a novel polariser arrangement, an optical shutter design using a double-cell construction is obtained thatpossesses a reduced angular transmittance variation when in the activated phase. 4. 24. Photo-polymerization as a tool for engineering the active material in organic field-effect transistors

    Author : Andrzej Dzwilewski; Ludvig Edman; Xavier Crispin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Field-effect transistor; photo-polymerization; PCBM; C60; Fullerene; Physics; Fysik; fasta tillståndets fysik; Solid State Physics;

    Abstract : The emergence of organic semiconductors is exciting since it promises to open up for straightforward and low-cost fabrication of a wide range of efficient and novel electronic devices. However, in order for this promise to become reality it is critical that new and functional fabrication techniques are developed. READ MORE

  5. 25. Integrated Photonics for Quantum Optics

    Author : Samuel Gyger; Val Zwiller; Stephan Steinhauer; Ali W. Elshaari; Marijn A. M. Versteegh; Matthew D. Shaw; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; integrated photonics; single-photons; single-photon sources; quantum dots; single-photon detectors; SNSPD; integrerad fotonik; enstaka fotoner; enstaka fotonkällor; kvantprickar; enstaka fotondetektorer; SNSPDs; Optics and Photonics; Optik och fotonik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Quantum physics allows us a vision of Nature's forces that bind the world, all its seeds and sources. After decades of primarily scientific research, we've arrived at a stage in time where quantum technology can be applied to practical problems and add value outside the field. READ MORE
