1. Microstructure Formation During Solidification and Solid State Transformation in Compacted Graphite Iron
Abstract : Compacted graphite iron (CGI) is rapidly becoming an attractive alternative material for engine components in the automotive industry, replacing lamellar graphite iron (LGI) in applications where high mechanical strength is desired. However, the gain in mechanical strength comes with a cost; thermal conductivity, process control and machining are three areas that are more challenging for CGI. READ MORE

2. Phase Transformations in Solid Pharmaceutical Materials Studied by AFM, ESCA, DSC and SAXS
Abstract : Mixing excipients is a common way to produce pharmaceutical materials with suitable properties for drug formulation. An understanding of the basic mechanisms involved in the formation and transformation of the structures of solid state mixtures is crucial if one is to be able to produce materials with the desired properties in a reliable way. 3. On the chemical and processing stability of pharmaceutical solids : Solid form dependent water presenting capacity and process induced solid form transformation
Abstract : There is a need for improving our knowledge and understanding about formation mechanisms and nature of amorphous state in order to prevent the unintended presence of disorder in solid pharmaceutical products and reduce the related stability issues. The suggested theory that water binding capacity of amorphous cellulose affects the chemical stability of hydrolysis sensitive drugs in formulations with cellulose based excipients needs a clarification and water-cellulose interaction profiles need to be examined. 4. Chromatography and extraction techniques for new evaluation methods of polyolefins long-term performance
Abstract : Chromatography and extraction techniques, and also chemiluminescence have been utilized to develop new rapid and informative tools in the evaluation of long-term properties and environmental effects of polymeric materials. Methods were developed for classification of materials and for early and rapid degradation detection. READ MORE

5. Vibrant bodies of swirling flow : On the limits of mechanical power transformation
Abstract : This thesis pinpoints the intertwined nature of inertia. A vibrant body of a swirling flow is neither just a flow nor a body. It is both. READ MORE
