  1. 1. On inflammation and cardiovascular disease in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Solveig Wållberg Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; mortality; cardiovascular disease; ischemic heart disease; inflammation; lipids; Lp a ; haemostasis; fibrinolysis; atherogenesis; thrombogenesis;

    Abstract : Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have a shorter life span than the general population. An increased death due to cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been reported. RA is characterized by synovitis and joint destruction accompanied by an acute phase reaction and systemic features. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aspects of physical activity in Rheumatoid Arthritis : associations with inflammation and cardiovascular risk factors

    Author : Kristina Hörnberg; Solveig Wållberg Jonsson; Björn Sundström; Christina Helging Opava; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physiotherapy; rheumatoid arthritis; cardiovascular disease; aerobic capacity; physical activity; exercise; primary prevention;

    Abstract : Background: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD), partially attributable to systemic inflammation and traditional risk factors for CVD. Since physical activity (PA) is strongly related to CVD in the general population, the aim of this thesis was to describe aspects of PA in patients with RA, and further to analyse associations with disease activity, traditional risk factors for CVD and subclinical atherosclerosis. 3. 3. Early rheumatoid arthritis aspects of severity and co-morbidity

    Author : Lena Innala; Solveig Wållberg Jonsson; Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Sᴓren Jacobsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Early rheumatoid arthriti; ACPA; cardiovascular co-morbidity; age at onset; pharmacological therapy; severity; disease activity; co-morbidity;

    Abstract : Background Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic progressive destructive joint disease with an increased risk for co-morbidity and premature death if untreated. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the main cause of death but also other co-morbid conditions contribute to the patient’s shorter life expectancy. READ MORE

  4. 4. On diet in ankylosing spondylitis

    Author : Björn Sundström; Solveig Wållberg-Jonsson; Gunnar Johansson; Margaretha Haugen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diet; ankylosing spondylitits; omega-3; cardiovascular; reumatologi; rheumatology;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to examine the role of diet in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Patients were examined in: i) a postal questionnaire survey of dietary habits and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms; ii) a study on biomarkers of diet and disease activity; iii) a comparison of cardiovascular risk factors with the general population using data from the Västerbotten Intervention Programme (VIP), and; iv) a 21-week omega-3 fatty acid supplementation study regarding the effects on disease activity. 5. 5. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in rheumatoid arthritis : aspects of pathogenesis and risk

    Author : Bengt Wahlin; Solveig Wållberg-Jonsson; Anna Södergren; Anders Bengtsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; inflammation; atherosclerosis; cardiovascular disease; risk estimation; cytomegalovirus; T-cells; bone turnover; osteoprotegerin; osteocalcin; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an increased prevalence and severity of atherosclerosis, and a corresponding increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The mechanisms causing this are not well elucidated, but both traditional cardiovascular risk factors and RA-associated factors have been associated with atherosclerosis and increased risk of cardiovascular events in patients with RA.
