  1. 1. Adapting sonar systems for monitoring ocean energy technologies

    Author : Francisco Francisco; Jan Sundberg; Mats Leijon; William Megill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ocean energy; sonar systems; monitoring technologies; marine environment; wave power; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : The global energy sector is under profound reforms aiming towards renewable energy sources, clean technologies and expansion of smart grids, all with the additional aim of providing affordable and dependable electricity for everyone. A reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is a priority on the global agenda, and to achieve that, cleaner energy technologies has to be more integrated into the energy mix. READ MORE

  2. 2. Microsystems Technology for Underwater Vehicle Applications

    Author : Jonas Jonsson; Greger Thornell; Hugo Nguyen; Johan Köhler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Aquatic; Submersible; Underwater; Micro; Miniaturized; Sonar; Sidescan; Topography; Laser; Diffractive; Optics; Sampler; Particle; Microorganism; Acoustic; Enriching; Conductivity; Temperature; Depth; CTD; Flow; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work has been to investigate how miniaturization, such as microsystems technology, can potentially increase the scientific throughput in exploration of hard-to-reach underwater environments, such as the subglacial lakes of Antarctica, or other challenging environments, including cave systems and wrecks. A number of instruments and subsystems applicable to miniature submersibles have been developed and studied, and their potential to provide a high functionality density for size-restricted exploration platforms has been assessed.
