  1. 6. Characterization of soot in air and rain over southern Asia

    Author : Erik J. Engström; Caroline Leck; Henning Rodhe; Paolo Laj; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soot; black carbon; atmospheric concentration; light absorption; wet deposition; scavenging; wash-out ratio; South-Asia.; Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences; Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Filter-based optical measurements of light absorbing particulate matter at awavelength of about 550 nm, here referred to as soot, in air and rainwaterhave been performed during the period from 1st June 2005 to 31th May 2009at Godavari in Nepal, Sinhagad in India and Hanimaadhoo in The Maldives.A method for determination of water-insoluble light absorbing matter inrainwater has been developed. 2. 7. Multiscale methods for the fundamental understanding of diesel soot mitigation

    Author : Carl Justin Kamp; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nanofabrication; Catalyst; Soot; Aftertreatment; Carbon; Particulate Matter; Oxidation; Ash; Diesel Particulate Filter;

    Abstract : Current regulations for diesel exhaust emissions cannot be met by engine improvements alone, and for this reason the diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a widely used aftertreatment component for the control of diesel particulate matter (PM). The DPF functions by trapping PM and destroying it by oxidation. READ MORE

  3. 8. Optical investigations and characterization of soot of different morphology and maturity

    Author : Sandra Török; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser-induced incandescence; Extinction; Elastic light scattering; mini-CAST; Soot; Brown carbon; Black carbon; Maturity; Morphology; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Török;

    Abstract : The formation path from small poorly absorbing incipient soot to larger fractal-like strongly absorbing black soot is extensive, and along this path the optical and physicochemical properties of the soot evolve. Soot emitted into the atmosphere may originate from some stage of this process, which will result in a wide spectrum of carbonaceous aerosols in the atmosphere which may interact with the sun and influence the radiative balance of the earth. 4. 9. Combustion Studies of Soot and Fuel Based on Use of Laser Diagnostics

    Author : Boman Axelsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser Diagnostics; Laser Induced Fluorescence; Soot; Physics; Fysik; Laser technology; Motors and propulsion systems; Laserteknik; Laser-Induced Incandescence; Motorer; framdrivningssystem; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Axelsson;

    Abstract : In the work described in the present thesis, laser techniques for combustion engine diagnostics were developed and applied. The main techniques were laser-induced incandescence (LII) and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), used for both flame and engine diagnostics. READ MORE

  5. 10. Development and Applications of Detailed Kinetic Models for the Soot Particle Size Distribution Function

    Author : Karl Netzell; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; flamelet model; Physics; particle distribution; soot; moment method; sectional method; particle size distribution function;

    Abstract : Two different mathematical methods of implementing a detailed kinetic soot model have been employed in this work. The theoretical description of the soot modeling employed in this work is divided into three parts. Initially a detailed kinetic soot model is described from a chemistry and physics perspective.
