1. Biomolecular Analysis by Dual-Tag Microarrays and Single Molecule Amplification
Abstract : Padlock probes and proximity ligation are two powerful molecular tools for detection of nucleic acids and proteins, respectively. Both methods result in the formation of DNA reporter molecules upon recognition of specific target molecules. READ MORE

2. Accessing Genetic Variation by Microarray Technology
Abstract : Microarray technology is a promising approach for the simultaneous analysis of multiple single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), which are the most abundant form of genetic variation. In this thesis enzyme-assisted microarray-based methods were developed to improve the accuracy and genotype discrimination power of the current methods for SNP genotyping. READ MORE

3. Environmental history in southern Mozambique : Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene
Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane).
