  1. 1. Fearful attention : Investigating event-related potentials in spider phobia

    Author : Joakim Norberg; Stefan Wiens; Jonas Persson; Harald Schupp; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; attention; phobia; event-related potential; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Previous studies showed that emotional pictures capture attention. Further, this effect was decreased by manipulating spatial attention. In contrast, studies produced mixed findings for effects of perceptual load on attention to emotional pictures. Emotional pictures can be phobic or nonphobic. READ MORE

  2. 2. Emotional Influences on Auditory Perception and Attention

    Author : Erkin Asutay; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; change deafness; auditory-induced emotion; conditioning; core affect; auditory spatial attention; auditory perception; dot-probe; attention; emotion;

    Abstract : The auditory perception is a fundamental part of our interactions with and experience of the external environment. We receive considerable amount of information from our surroundings through sounds. The auditory system takes care of this continuous flow of information in a seemingly effortless manner. READ MORE

  3. 3. Virtual Reality for Enriched Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients with Spatial Neglect : Diagnostics and the Rehabilitation Effect on Spatial Attention and Neuronal Activity

    Author : Helena Fordell; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Hanne Krarup Christensen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; spatial neglect; rehabilitation; virtual reality; enriched environment; fMRI;

    Abstract : Background: Approximately a third of all stroke patients develop spatial neglect, a debilitating symptom associated with poor outcome. Spatial neglect is clinically defined as a deficit in processing and responding to stimuli presented on the contralesional side of the body, or the space surrounding that side of the body. READ MORE

  4. 4. Attention capture by sudden and unexpected changes : a multisensory perspective

    Author : Erik Marsja; Jessica K. Ljungberg; Gregory Neely; Patrik Hansson; François Vachon; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Attention Capture; Tactile; Auditory; Visual; Crossmodal; Bimodal; Distraction; Short-term memory; Attention; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : The main focus for this thesis was cross-modal attention capture by sudden and unexpected sounds and vibrations, known as deviants, presented in a stream the same to-be-ignored stimulus. More specifically, the thesis takes a multisensory perspective and examines the possible similarities and differences in how deviant vibrations and sounds affect visual task performance (Study I), and whether the deviant and standard stimuli have to be presented within the same modality to capture attention away from visual tasks (Study II). Abstract : This practical artistic research project (Documented Artistic Research Project (Doctoral Thesis)) explores how the performance of acoustic sound in dialogue with site can create a sonic scenography, experienced by an audience from within the sonic structures. Six art projects were carried out in the context of this research.
