  1. 1. Making Head or Tail of the Hippocampus : A Long-Axis Account of Episodic and Spatial Memory

    Author : Jonas Persson; Hedvig Söderlund; Tomas Furmark; Asaf Gilboa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hippocampus; fMRI; episodic memory; spatial memory; gender differences; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : While episodic and spatial memory both depend on the hippocampus, opposite gender differences in these functions suggest they are partly separate, with different neural underpinnings. The anterior and posterior hippocampus differ  in structure and whole-brain connectivity, and studies point to the posterior hippocampus being more involved in spatial memory while the anterior hippocampus’ role in episodic memory is less clear. 2. 2. Child molesters and children as witnesses : spatial behaviour, modus operandi and memory recall

    Author : Jessica Ebberline; Carl Martin Allwood; Ulf Holmberg; Pekka Santtila; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Geographical offender profiling; spatial behaviour; modus operandi; memory recall; Psychology; Psykologi; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Dragnet; child molesters; geographical profiling; Modus operandi; confidence; child witnesses; accuracy;

    Abstract : Offenders who target children are a negative phenomenon in our society. These offenders are often seen as the worst of the worst of criminals and are therefore a priority for investigators trying to solve these crimes as fast as possible. READ MORE

  3. 3. Scalable Bayesian spatial analysis with Gaussian Markov random fields

    Author : Per Sidén; Mattias Villani; Anders Eklund; Håvard Rue; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spatial statistics; Bayesian statistics; Gaussian Markov random fields; fMRI; Machine learning; Spatial statistik; Bayesiansk statistik; Gaussiska Markov-fält; fMRI; Maskininlärning;

    Abstract : Accurate statistical analysis of spatial data is important in many applications. Failing to properly account for spatial autocorrelation may often lead to false conclusions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aging Along the Hippocampal Axis : Structure, Function and Whole-brain Connections in Association with Memory

    Author : Kristin Nordin; Hedvig Söderlund; Agneta Herlitz; Jessica Damoiseaux; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; hippocampus; aging; longitudinal-axis; episodic memory; spatial memory; connectivity; fMRI; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Hippocampus-dependent functions display marked reductions in older age, an observation that has led to the extensive study of age effects on hippocampal properties. Even though research indicates that the hippocampus is structurally and functionally heterogeneous along its longitudinal axis, its anterior and posterior regions differentially supporting episodic and spatial memory representations, few studies explicitly consider age effects in relation to axis. 5. 5. Participating in a Story: Exploring Audience Cognition

    Author : Pierre Gander; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; memory; cognition; comprehension; Lingvistik; Psychology; Filosofi; Philosophy; computer games; interactive media; perspective; memory qualities; spatial cognition; fiction; narrative; cognitive science; linguistics; Psykologi; Applied and experimental psychology; Tillämpad och experimentell psykologi;

    Abstract : Stories that the audience can influence (such as computer games and other interactive multimedia), in contrast to 'traditional' stories (such as books and cinema), present a challenge to fields which take narrative (story) as their study object. What is the difference between these two kinds of stories? Earlier theories have focused on differences in media, structure, or the audience's physical actions. READ MORE
