  1. 11. Metapopulation and metacommunity processes, dispersal strategies and life-history trade-offs in epiphytes

    Author : Swantje Löbel; Håkan Rydin; Tord Snäll; Lars E. Ericson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asexual; biodiversity; bryophytes; dispersal limitation; establishment; evolution of reproductive traits; germination; growth; habitat fragmentation; landscape dynamics; local processes; patch-tracking; pH; reproduction; species richness; species interactions; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about metapopulation and metacommunity processes in patchy, dynamic landscapes, using epiphytic bryophytes as a model system. Host trees and deciduous forest stands in the coniferous landscape are patchy, temporal and undergo changes in habitat quality during succession. READ MORE

  2. 12. On the use of aerosol optical properties and satellite-retrieved trace gases in regional air quality modelling

    Author : Emma Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Model; Climate; Radiation; Satellite; Air Quality;

    Abstract : The effects of anthropogenic pollutants in the lower atmosphere (troposphere) have been shown, historically and scientifically, to have a deleterious effect on both plant and animal life. Pollutants such as near-surface ozone and soot (black carbon) are two notorious examples with clear anthropogenic sources. READ MORE

  3. 13. On the Use of Laser-Induced Incandescence for Soot Diagnostics: From Theoretical Aspects to Applications in Engines

    Author : Henrik Bladh; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser-Induced Incandescence; Laser Diagnostics; LII; Soot; Model; Engine; Particulates; Soot volume fraction; Combustion; Physics; Fysik; quantum mechanics; classical mechanics; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; thermodynamics; statistical physics; gravitation; relativity; kvantmekanik; klassisk mekanik; termodynamik; statistisk fysik; relativitet; Gases; Gaser; fluid dynamics; plasmas; Teknik; Laserteknik; Motors and propulsion systems; Motorer; framdrivningssystem; fluiddynamik; plasma; Technological sciences; Laser technology;

    Abstract : The laser-induced incandescence technique (LII) is a laser-based diagnostic technique for measurements of soot volume fraction and particle size. The technique relies on detection of incandescent light from soot particles heated to around 4000 K using nanosecond laser pulses. READ MORE

    Abstract : Land use change constitutes a primary driving force in shaping social-ecological systems world wide, and its effects reach far beyond the directly impacted areas. Graph based landscape ecological tools have become established as a promising way to efficiently explore and analyze the complex, spatial systems dynamics of ecological networks in physical landscapes. 5. 15. Genetic variation and inference of demographic histories in non-model species

    Author : Jean-Luc Tison; Dalén Love; Mats Grahn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Both long-term environmental changes such as those driven by the glacial cycles and more recent anthropogenic impacts have had major effects on the past demography in wild organisms. Within species, these changes are reflected in the amount and distribution of neutral genetic variation. READ MORE
