  1. 21. Gastrotricha of Sweden - Biodiversity and Phylogeny

    Author : Tobias Kånneby; Ulf Jondelius; M. Antonio Todaro; Sven Boström; Rick Hochberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; taxonomy; systematics; phylogeny; new species; cryptic species; Chaetonotidae; Dasydytidae; Thaumastodermatidae; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning; Livets mångfald;

    Abstract : Gastrotricha are small aquatic invertebrates with approximately 770 known species. The group has a cosmopolitan distribution and is currently classified into two orders, Chaetonotida and Macrodasyida. The gastrotrich fauna of Sweden is poorly known: a couple of years ago only 29 species had been reported. READ MORE

  2. 22. On the endemic Fucus radicans in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Ellen Schagerström; Lena Kautsky; Inga Kjersti Sjøtun; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seaweed; sexual reproduction; clonality; fragmentation; dimorphism; salinity; distribution; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Abstract : The brown macroalgae Fucus radicans is endemic to the Baltic Sea, but little is known about this newly described species. This thesis investigates the ecology and role of F. radicans within the species poor Baltic Sea ecosystem. The thallus of F. READ MORE

  3. 23. Ecology of juvenile turbot and flounder in the Central Baltic Sea : Implications for recruitment

    Author : Jesper Martinsson; Sture Hansson; Magnus Appelberg; Anders Nissling; Leif Pihl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Psetta maxima; Platichthys flesus; juvenile; Baltic Sea; nursery ground; distribution; recruitment; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Our understanding of turbot and flounder ecology in the Baltic Sea is insufficient for sound management decisions. This thesis aims to fill some gaps in current knowledge by providing information of the ecology of turbot and flounder within their juvenile habitat, and to relate these findings to issues assumed relevant for recruitment variation. 4. 24. Ecosystem response to dam removal

    Author : Anna G.C. Lejon; Christer Nilsson; Birgitta Malm Renöfält; Emily Stanley; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : dam removal; macroinvertebrates; plant species; plant succession; restoration; riparian zone; sediment deposition; species richness; Sweden; biology; biologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany; hydrologi; Hydrology;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to improve our understanding of how riverine ecosystems respond to dam removal. Riverine and particularly riparian ecosystems are among the most variable and important features of all landscapes. READ MORE

  5. 25. The role of herbivores in mediating responses of tundra ecosystems to climate change

    Author : Elina Kaarlejärvi; Johan Olofsson; Anu Eskelinen; Jon Moen; Eric Post; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; warming; grazer; Rangifer; Lemmus lemmus; species distribution; biotic interactions; altitude; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The Arctic areas are warming more rapidly than other parts of the world. Increasing temperatures are predicted to result in shrubification, higher productivity, declining species diversity and new species invasions to the tundra. READ MORE
