6. Plants go with the flow : predicting spatial distribution of plant species in the boreal forest
Abstract : The main objectives of this thesis are to study if a topographic wetness index (TWI) could be used as a tool for predicting the spatial distribution of vascular plant species richness in the boreal forest as well as to study congruence in species richness between vascular plants, liverworts, mosses and lichens. A wetness index ln(a/tanβ) based on topography was used to assign a specific TWI-value to every 20 x 20m grid in two 25 km2 boreal forest landscapes (differing in average soil pH) in northern Sweden. 7. Myonuclear Organization and Regulation of Muscle Contraction in Single Muscle Fibres : Effects of Ageing, Gender, Species, Endocrine Factors and Muscle Size
Abstract : The skeletal muscle fibre is a syncitium where each myonucleus regulates the gene products in a finite volume of cytoplasm i.e., the myonuclear domain (MND). READ MORE

8. Waterfowl herbivory on submerged macrophytes in eutrophic lakes
Abstract : Submerged macrophytes are thought to stabilize clear-water states of shallow lakes. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate how waterfowl herbivory can affect abundance, distribution and species composition of submerged macrophytes in eutrophic lakes. READ MORE

9. Interaction strength and keystone species in model food webs
Abstract : Ecological communities are often exposed to different kind of disturbances of varied magnitude. The response to disturbances can be affected by, among other factors, the strength of interactions between species within the community. READ MORE

10. Mathematical modelling and experimental simulation of chlorate and chlor-alkali cells
Abstract : The production of chlorate, chlorine and sodium hydroxiderelies heavily on electrical energy, so that savings in thisarea are always a pertinent issue. This can be brought aboutthrough increased mass transfer of reacting species to therespective electrodes, and through increased catalytic activityand uniformity of current density distribution at theseelectrodes.
