1. Affinity-, Partition- and Permeability Properties of the Human Red Blood Cell Membrane and Biomembrane Models, with Emphasis on the GLUT1 Glucose Transporter
Abstract : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. 2. Lignin Extraction from Black Liquor - Precipitation, filtration and washing
Abstract : Various process streams in the pulp and/or paper mill contain valuable substances which can be converted into new products, e.g. lignin and xylane. READ MORE

3. Absorbent Materials from Kraft Pulp
Abstract : Superabsorbent polymers (SAP) have, since being introduced in the 1980s, become an important constituent in hygiene products, such as disposable diapers. The design of disposable diapers has changed over the years and today thinner products can be produced partly because of the excellent absorption and retention properties of the petrochemical-based SAP. 4. Radiofrequency fields : exposure, dose and health
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to increase our knowledge of relevant exposure parameters when discussing possible health implication from exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF), especially effects that might occur at non-thermal levels. In this thesis an effort is made to broaden the exposure assessment and to take the exposure time into account and combine it with the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and the field parameters (electric and magnetic field strength) to approach a dose concept. 5. Mesoporous Titania for High Rate Electrochemical Energy Storage
Abstract : Mesoporous titanium oxides are increasingly attracting interest as potential candidates for fast electrochemical energy storage. In this thesis, mesoporous titania of different polymorphs have been evaluated in relation to their ability to reversibly store Li+ ions inside their structure. READ MORE
