11. Spectroscopic studies of solvation and adsorption properties of PVP
Abstract : The adsorption mechanism of 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (VP), poly(1-vinyl-2- pyrrolidone) (PVP) and azelaic acid on synthetic gamma-aluminium oxide surfaces was investigated using FT-IR, FT-Raman, UV, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. (Liquid-solid state) As a first step the solvation of VP and PVP in solvents of varying polarity, specifically water, ethylene glycol (EG), chloroform and carbon tetrachloride, was studied. READ MORE

13. Cation adsorption properties of substituted kraft fibres : an experimental and thermodynamic modelling study
Abstract : Acid/base and metal ion adsorption properties have been investigated for a range of chemically modified bleached Kraft fibre materials (pulps). The studies were performed via potentiometric titrations, Flame Atomic Absorbtion (and Emission) Spectroscopy, Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy and Extended X-ray Absorbtion Fine Structure measurements. 14. Properties of Type Ia Supernovae : From the (intermediate) Palomar Transient Factory
Abstract : Type Ia Supernovae (SNe) have been used to discover the accelerated expansion of the universe but many open questions remain unanswered. These include the stellar progenitor, extinction and possible systematic trends in the supernova brightness for different host galaxy environments or cosmic time. READ MORE

15. Microscopic Properties of Superdeformed Nuclei
Abstract : Many high spin rotational bands in superdeformed nuclei have been found in the A ~ 140-150 region, but so far no linking transitions to known normal-deformed states have been found in these nuclei. Therefore, configuration and spin assignments have to be based on indirect spectroscopic information. READ MORE
