1. Oxidative Dissolution of Spent Fuel and Release of Nuclides from a Copper/Iron Canister : Model Developments and Applications
Abstract : Three models have been developed and applied in the performance assessment of a final repository. They are based on accepted theories and experimental results for known and possible mechanisms that may dominate in the oxidative dissolution of spent fuel and the release of nuclides from a canister. 2. The effect of dissolved hydrogen on spent nuclear fuel corrosion
Abstract : In case of a canister failure in a deep bedrock repository for nuclear fuel, the release of radiotoxic nuclides to the groundwater will depend on the chemical environment near the fuel surface.Due to the presence of large amounts of iron in the canister, hydrogen will be formed if the canister becomes groundwater flooded. 3. Developments toward a novel methodology for spent nuclear fuel verification
Abstract : One of the tasks in nuclear safeguards is to regularly inspect spent nuclear fuel discharged from nuclear power reactors and verify the integrity of it, so that illegal removal and diversion of radioactive material can be promptly discovered. In the current project, which is a collaboration between Chalmers University of Technology and SCK CEN, a novel methodology for non-intrusive inspection of spent nuclear fuel is under development. 4. Dynamics of Spent Nuclear Fuel Dissolution : Impact of Catalysis, Matrix Composition and Time Evolution
Abstract : Worldwide, nuclear power produces a large portion of the electricity that we consume every day. While nuclear energy comes with certain advantages, waste originating from its use is of particular concern. READ MORE

5. Nuclear safeguards directed to the application of multivariate analysis techniques to existing and future nuclear fuel cycles
Abstract : For as long as nuclear power has existed, there has been a concern for effectively safeguarding nuclear material since it was learned that it could be misused. Early on, many nations were interested in nuclear power, and therefore there was an urgent need to verify that it was only used for civilian purposes. READ MORE
