1. Lipid sponge phase nanostructures as carriers for enzymes
Abstract : Nonlamellar lipid liquid crystalline phases have many potential applications, such as for drug delivery, protein encapsulation or crystallization. Lipid liquid crystalline sponge phase (L3) has so far not been very much considered in these applications, in spite of apparent advantages in terms of its flexibility and capacity of forming large aqueous pores able to encapsulate large bioactive molecules. 2. Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium Properties of Nonionic Surfactant Membranes
Abstract : An extensive investigation of the multilamellar vesicles (La*), lamellar (La), and multiply connected sponge (L3) phase formed in surfactant systems is presented in this thesis. These membrane structures were studied using surfactant systems containing poly(oxyethylene) alkyl ethers, n-CnH2n+1(OCH2CH2) mOH, commonly abbreviated as CnEm. READ MORE

3. Bioactive Compounds in the Chemical Defence of Marine Sponges : Structure-Activity Relationships and Pharmacological Targets
Abstract : Marine invertebrates, in particular sponges, represent a source of a wide range of secondary metabolites, many of which have been attributed various defensive capabilities against environmental stress factors. In this thesis sponge-derived low-molecular peptide-like compounds and associated analogs are investigated for bioactivity and pharmacological targets. READ MORE

4. Lipid bilayers versus monolayers- Sponge phases and skin lipid domains
Abstract : The L3, or sponge, phase is a thermodynamically stable isotropic liquid consisting of a surfactant membrane in aqueous solution. A solvent induced L3 phase is shown in systems of solvent, monoolein and water. READ MORE

5. Turbomachinery Aeroacoustic Calculations using Nonlinear Methods
Abstract : Noise regulations for aircraft that fly over populated areas are becoming continuously stricter. This in combination with increasing computational capabilities has boosted interest in aeroacoustic computations in the aerospace industry. READ MORE
