1. Risk of spontaneous fires at temporary storages sites for organic material, waste fuels and recyclables: Quantification and mitigation
Abstract : Economic and environmental constraints have created increasing demand for (material and energy recovery) and recycling of waste generated from households, commercial and industrial activities. A wide variety of materials waiting for sorting, recovery, recycling and disposal are stored at temporary storage sites (TSS) where physical, biotic and abiotic processes can lead the stored material to spontaneous ignition. 2. Combustion Engine Characterization and Development by Means of Laser Diagnostics
Abstract : Planar laser induced fluorescence (LIF) has been utilized for two-dimensional imaging in combustion environments. By using tracer LIF the fuel distribution prior to ignition has been monitored in a GDI-engine. READ MORE

3. Development and Application of Laser Diagnostics for Studies of Phenomena Related to IC Engine Combustion
Abstract : Various laser diagnostic techniques have been developed and demonstrated for engine, or engine-related measurements. The experimental work is presented in Chapter 3 and in Papers I-VII. In Chapter 3, imaging of soot in a running compression-ignition (CI) is described. READ MORE

4. Interaction of sound waves with a swirl stabilized wood powder flame and their effects on flame characteristics
Abstract : Swirling flows have been widely used for many years in engineering applications such as; chemical and mechanical mixing devices, separation units, spray drying technologies, turbo machinery and combustion systems. In practical combustion applications, swirl motion has been adopted to the incoming reactant flows in order to enhance the mixing of fuel and oxidizer and to improve flame stabilization and establishment, especially in regions of relatively low velocities, by recirculating hot product gas to the incoming reactants. 5. Development of Laser-Induced Fluorescence for Precombustion Diagnostics in Spark-Ignition Engines
Abstract : Motivated by a desire to understand and optimize combustion in spark-ignition (SI) engines, laser techniques have been developed for measurement of fuel and residual gas, respectively, in the precombustion mixture of an operating SI engine. The primary objective was to obtain two-dimensional, quantitative data in the vicinity of the spark gap at the time of ignition. READ MORE
