  1. 11. The long-term effects of obstetrical anal sphincter injury on pelvic floor function

    Author : Ida E K Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anal incontinence; Caesarean section; Faecal incontinence; Pelvic organ prolapse; Severity; Urinary incontinence; Vaginal delivery;

    Abstract : Background: As women live longer, the long-term effects of childbirth may negatively affect their quality of life and professional careers. Aim: This thesis investigates the long-term effects of vacuum extraction (VE) and one and two obstetrical anal sphincter injuries (OASIs). READ MORE

  2. 12. Lecithin-Based Microemulsions for Pharmaceutical use - Phase behavior and Solution Structure

    Author : Christian von Corswant; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; felodipine; solubilization; drug delivery; self-diffusion NMR; alkylmaltoside; microstructure; isopropyl myristate; triglyceride; soybean phosphatidylcholine; Microemulsion; lecithin; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Abstract : Microemulsions are thermodynamically stable, transparent solutions of water, oil and amphiphile(s). It is possible to incorporate large amounts of oil in microemulsions, which makes them interesting for use as a drug delivery vehicle for water insoluble drugs. A prerequisite for pharmaceutical use, however, is a low toxicity of the composition. READ MORE

  3. 13. Synthesis, Characterisation and Properties of Biomimetic Biodegradable Polymers

    Author : Fredrik Nederberg; Tim Bowden; Nicola Tirelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; biodegradable polymers; biomimetic; phospholipid-like; phosphorylcholine; amphiphilic; ionomer; hemocompatible; non-adhesive; water uptake; reduced protein adsorption; protein delivery; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The acceptance of blood contacting implants creating favorable conditions in vivo is decisively determined by their interaction with proteins that mediate inter cellular interactions with synthetic substrates. Adsorbed proteins can activate blood cascade systems like coagulation and complement that may result in serious blood clots, and/or immunological reactions. READ MORE

  4. 14. Pelvic floor dysfunction depending on mode of delivery : clinical and epidemiological aspects

    Author : Åsa Leijonhufvud; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : cesarean;

    Abstract : Objective: To study pelvic floor disorders in relation to mode of delivery using clinical and epidemiological methods; to compare the prevalence and risk of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in healthy primiparous women in relation to vaginal (VD) or elective cesarean (CD) delivery nine months after delivery; to estimate the effect of delivery on urinary and anal incontinence 10 years after first childbirth in relation to mode of delivery and to assess the influence of parity and obstetrical events; to estimate the risks of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery related to delivery mode at long-term follow-up; and to evaluate the influence of age at first childbirth on the risks of surgically managed SUI and POP. Methods: Paper I is a clinical study of 435 subjects, with prospectively collected data based on self-reported questionnaires and medical charts. READ MORE

  5. 15. Traction force and long-term outcome in children born after vacuum-assisted delivery

    Author : Stefhanie Romero; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Introduction: Vacuum-assisted delivery (VAD) is used in cases of dystocia or foetal distress in the second stage of labour. The frequency of VADs differs around the world, and in Sweden they account for six to nine percent of all deliveries. READ MORE
