  1. 1. Modulation of the Progenitor Cell and Homeostatic Capacities of Müller Glia Cells in Retina : Focus on α2-Adrenergic and Endothelin Receptor Signaling Systems

    Author : Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid; Finn Hallböök; Per Ekström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alpha2-adrenergic receptor; Brimonidine; Brn3a; Dedifferentiation; Endothelin; EGFR; ERK1 2; Neuroprotection; NMDA; MIO-M1 human Müller cell; Müller cells; Retina; Retinal ganglion cells; Src-kinase; Transactivation.; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Müller cells are major glial cells in the retina and have a broad range of functions that are vital for the retinal neurons. During retinal injury gliotic response either leads to Müller cell dedifferentiation and formation of a retinal progenitor or to maintenance of mature Müller cell functions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Intracellular components involved in parathyroid sensing of extracellular calcium

    Author : Isaac G. Onyango; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Parathyroid hormone; secretion; Src kinase; ERK; PI 3-kinase; PKC; extracellular calcium; parathyroid cell; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical and Physiological Chemistry; medicinsk och fysiologisk kemi;

    Abstract : Parathyroid glands are the primary regulator of extracellular calcium ([Ca2+]e). Ca2+ plays a key role in many fundamental biological processes and is also an essential structural component of the skeleton. The parathyroid chief cells detect small changes in [Ca2+]e and respond by altering the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH). READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation of epithelial morphogenesis in Drosophila by the Emp scavenger receptor

    Author : Ana Sofia Pinheiro; Christos Samakovlis; Sofia Araújo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Emp; scavenger receptor; CD36; cytoskeleton; Src kinase; Diap; DrICE; Hipo Yki; endocytosis; Drosophila; airways; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : The respiratory system of Drosophila melanogaster, the trachea, is widely used as a model system to study the development of branched tubular organs. Airway maturation in Drosophila entails a series of sequential events: first, a massive apical secretion of luminal proteins initiates diametric tube expansion, second an endocytic wave removes luminal proteins and finally liquid clearance and gas filling converts the nascent epithelial tubes to a functional respiratory organ. 4. 4. Mechanisms of activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor by novel inducers of the CYP1A1 gene

    Author : Maria Backlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : AhR; omeprazole; primaquine; CYP1A1; ligand-independent activation; ligandbinding domain; protein tyrosine kinase; c-src kinase;

    Abstract : The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) functions as a ligand-activated transcription factor that is responsible for the activation of several response genes, of which the best characterised is the CYP1A1 gene. The prototype high affinity ligand for the AhR is the environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). READ MORE

  5. 5. Prion-infection and Cellular Signaling : Influence of scrapie-infection on lipid raft-associated proteins

    Author : Hanna Gyllberg; Katarina Bedecs; Albert Taraboulos; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Prion diseases are a group of fatal neurodegenerative diseases affecting almost all mammals including humans. The diseases are caused by formation of the misfolded isoform of the cellular prion protein (PrPC) to the disease causing PrPSc. READ MORE
