  1. 1. Calreticulins- Calcium-Binding Proteins with Functional Diversity and Evolutionary Duality

    Author : Staffan Persson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; plant; isoforms; evolution; diversity; differential regulation; chaperone; calnexin; calmegin; calcium; Arabidopsis; calreticulin; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Calreticulin is a multifunctional protein mainly localized in the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic organisms, except yeasts. The protein comprises three distinct regions: the N-terminal N domain, the C-terminal C domain, and the central P domain, reflecting the functional diversity of calreticulin. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adolescents' role in democratic "parenting"

    Author : Stefan Persson; Håkan Stattin; Margaret Kerr; Staffan Janson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; family democracy; adolescents; bidirecetional; siblings; family system; parenting; communication; Psychology; Psykologi; Psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : In research on family democracy there has been a tradition to focus on parents as leaders setting up the family climate. This dissertation challenged this perspective. Keeping with present day’s emphasis on bidirectionality between parents and children democratic family functioning was seen as jointly created by parents and youths. READ MORE

  3. 3. Chlorinated organic pollutants in soil and groundwater at chlorophenol-contaminated sawmill sites

    Author : Ylva Persson; Mats Tysklind; Lars Öberg; Staffan Lundstedt; Jaana Koistinen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; contaminated soil; hydrophobic organic contaminant; chlorinated phenoxyphenol; chlorinated diphenyl ether; chlorinated dibenzofuran; chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin; preservation; mobility; colloid; dissolved organic matter; particulate organic matter; groundwater; equilibrium column test; chlorophenol; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Mixtures of chlorinated organic pollutants can be found in the soils at chlorophenol-contaminated sawmill, including (inter alia) polychlorinated phenols (CPs), phenoxyphenols (PCPPs), diphenyl ethers (PCDEs), dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and dioxins (PCDDs). These hydrophobic compounds have low water solubility and hence low mobility as truly dissolved compounds. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Mechanisms behind the Tribological Performance of Stellites

    Author : Daniel H. E. Persson; Sture Hogmark; Staffan Jacobson; Mikael Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Stellite; Co-based; phase transformation; fcc; hcp; texture; alignment; low-friction; laser cladding; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis reveals the tribological mechanisms behind the intrinsic low friction potential of the Co-based family of alloys called Stellites. Although being an established and important group of materials, a satisfactory explanation to why they exhibit low-friction properties under severe sliding conditions has not previously been found in the literature. 5. 5. Solubility and Surface Complexation Studies of Apatites

    Author : Åsa Bengtsson; Staffan Sjöberg; Per Persson; Lars Lövgren; Laurent Charlet; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; apatite; dissolution; calcium; phosphate; fluoride; goethite; surface complexation; speciation; outer-sphere complexation; FTIR; XPS; potentiometry; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Apatites are a diverse class of phosphate minerals that are important in a great variety of natural and industrial processes. They are, for example, used as raw material in fertiliser production and in the remediation of metal-contaminated soils. READ MORE
