  1. 1. Expression and role of the cytokine tyrosine kinase receptor flt3 in early hematopoiesis

    Author : Jörgen Adolfsson; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor; extracellular fluids; Haematology; flt3; cytokine; Hematopoiesis; stem cells;

    Abstract : Mature blood cells are crucial for life, but they have a short lifetime and thus have to be replaced. These mature blood cells are produced by lineage restricted progenitors, which themselves are generated by rare multipotent hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) in a highly dynamic process called hematopoiesis. 2. 2. FGF signaling in specification of hESC-derived definitive endoderm

    Author : Jacqueline Ameri; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Diabetes affects around 200 million people worldwide. Curing diabetes would require the prevention of autoimmune destruction of beta cells and restoration of the beta cell mass restored either through regeneration or transplantation of the insulin producing cells. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cellular pathways and molecular regulation of hematopoietic stem cells

    Author : Kristina Anderson; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; β-catenin.; lineage commitment; hematopoietic stem cells; lineage priming; Wnt signaling pathway; biphenotypic cells; PAX5;

    Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are defined by their unique properties to self-renew and differentiate into all hematopoietic cell lineages. Residing in the bone marrow (BM), adult HSCs are organized in a hierarchy of cells that differ in their self-renewal and proliferative capacity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Downstream effects of master regulators in two brain diseases

    Author : Sebastian Braun; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rett syndrome; brain tumor development; gene regulation; neural stem cells; cell of origin; BMI1;

    Abstract : In paper one, we investigated how the pharmacological activation and inhibition of the glucocorticoid system affects lifespan and symptoms in a mouse model for RTT. We performed a long-term drug treatment study with the GR activator corticosterone and the GR inhibitor RU486 under which we measured the lifespan and onset of RTT-like symptoms of male Mecp2-null and female Mecp2 heterozygous mice in comparison to untreated mutant and to treated and untreated wild-type animals. 5. 5. Embryonic Stem Cells: Differentiation into Insulin Producing Cells and Elimination of Damaged Proteins

    Author : Gabriella Brolén; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; oxidatively damaged proteins; diabetes; carbonyl; C-peptide; Medicine human and vertebrates ; insulin; human embryonic stem cell; 20S proteasome; AGE; Pdx1; proinsulin;

    Abstract : This thesis includes two different parts: One focusing on how to induce human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) to differentiate into insulin producing cells by following the normal pancreatic development pathway. These cells have then the potential to be an unlimited source for diabetes regenerative medicine. READ MORE
