  1. 1. STAT3 in Prostate Cancer

    Author : Nicholas Don-Doncow; Malmö Urologisk cancerforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prostate cancer; STAT3; biomarker; Immunohistochemestry; Drug Resistance;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer is the second most common diagnosed cancer among men. Currently there are no reliablebiomarkers to distinguish between indolent and aggressive disease. When men progress to advanced stages of the disease treatment options are limited and resistance to treatments available today is a growing problem. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rule-Based Approaches for Large Biological Datasets Analysis : A Suite of Tools and Methods

    Author : Marcin Kruczyk; Jan Komorowski; Joaquin Dopazo; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rough sets; peak finding; gliomas; Alzheimer disease; STAT3; machine learning; feature selection; next generation sequencing;

    Abstract : This thesis is about new and improved computational methods to analyze complex biological data produced by advanced biotechnologies. Such data is not only very large but it also is characterized by very high numbers of features. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulation of IL-6-signaling and inflammatory response – Role of insulin, FOXO1 and PKCδ

    Author : Emelie Wallerstedt; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2-Diabetes; inflammation; obesity; IL-6; STAT3; PKCδ; FOXO1;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate if and how insulin antagonizes interleukin-6 (IL-6)-signaling and action using both 3T3-L1 mouse adipocytes (Paper I) and HepG2 human hepatocytes (Paper III). We also investigated the importance of PKCδ in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) lacking protein kinase C-δ (PKCδ-/-) (Paper II). READ MORE

  4. 4. Galiellalactone Synthetic Studies

    Author : Zilma Escobar; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; natural product; galiellalactone; prostate cancer; STAT3.;

    Abstract : In search for remedies and treatments, science has recurred to Mother Nature. This is where galiellalactone was found, a fungal metabolite isolated from Galiella rufa in 1990. Since then chemists and biologists have been studying its properties and found it to be a potential candidate against castration-resistance prostate cancer (CRPC). READ MORE

  5. 5. Apoptosis Regulation in Multiple Myeloma

    Author : Lina Dimberg; Helena Jernberg Wiklund; Kenneth Nilsson; Marie Arsenian Henriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biomedicine; multiple myeloma; apoptosis; survival; IFN; Stat1; Stat3; IGF-I; RTK inhibitor; PPP; IAP; Fas CD95; dexamethasone; Biomedicin;

    Abstract : Multiple myeloma (MM) is a virtually incurable B cell malignancy of the bone marrow. One important part of tumor progression and an obstacle for successful therapy is resistance to apoptosis. To combat this resistance, the mechanisms of apoptosis and survival in MM must be better defined. READ MORE
