11. Modelling and Inference using Locally Stationary Processes : Biomedical applications
Abstract : This thesis considers statistical methods for non-stationary signals, specifically stochastic modelling, inference on the model parameters and optimal spectral estimation. The models are based on Silverman’s definition of Locally Stationary Processes (LSPs). READ MORE

12. Four contributions to statistical inference in econometrics
Abstract : This thesis, which consists of four chapters, focuses on three topics: discriminating between stationary and nonstationary time series, testing the constancy of the error covariance matrix of a vector model, and estimating density functions over bounded domains using kernel techniques. In Chapter 1, “Testing the unit root hypothesis against the logistic smooth transition autoregressive model”, and Chapter 2, “A nonlinear alternative to the unit root hypothesis”, the joint hypothesis of unit root and linearity allows one to distinguish between random walk processes, with or without drift, and stationary nonlinear processes of the smooth transition autoregressive type. 13. Statistical Inference of Information in Networks : Causality and Directed Information Graphs
Abstract : Over the last decades, the advancements in measurement, collection, and storage of data have provided tremendous amounts of information. Thus, it has become crucial to extract valuable features and analyze the characteristics of data. As we study more complex systems (e.g. READ MORE

14. Sensitivity Analysis of Untestable Assumptions in Causal Inference
Abstract : This thesis contributes to the research field of causal inference, where the effect of a treatment on an outcome is of interest is concerned. Many such effects cannot be estimated through randomised experiments. For example, the effect of higher education on future income needs to be estimated using observational data. READ MORE

15. On predictions, measurement, and causal inference : Essays on statistical correlations and statistical applications in labor market economics and criminology
Abstract : This thesis consists of five papers covering a broad range of statistical themes, from prediction via correlation measures to causal inference.Paper I uses a nationally representative survey of separated Swedish women to examine whether men who strive to control their partners during their relationships are more likely to stalk or assault their ex-partners after separation.
