1. FLOW FIELD IN A HIGH HEAD FRANCIS TURBINE DRAFT TUBE DURING TRANSIENT OPERATIONS
Abstract : Hydroelectricity plays an important role to balance the stability of grid network. In order to improve the stability of presently high loaded grids, hydropower plants are being operated over a wide range of operations and experiencing frequent start-stop, load rejection, and load acceptance. 2. Weak Boundary and Interface Procedures for Wave and Flow Problems
Abstract : In this thesis, we have analyzed the accuracy and stability aspects of weak boundary and interface conditions (WBCs) for high order finite difference methods on Summations-By-Parts (SBP) form. The numerical technique has been applied to wave propagation and flow problems. READ MORE

3. Thermo-mechanical Fatigue Crack Propagation in Inconel 718
Abstract : Thermo-mechanical fatigue crack propagation in Inconel 718 has been studied with different methods. In-situ observations with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) were performed, the crack propagation process was followed cycle by cycle and the influences from load, temperature, and microstructure on the crack growth were analyzed. 4. Fiber/matrix interface crack propagation in polymeric unidirectional composite
Abstract : Fiber/matrix interface cracking plays an important role in determining the final failure of unidirectional composites. In the present study, energy release rate (ERR) for fiber/matrix interface debond growth originated from fiber break in unidirectional composite is calculated using 5-cylinders axisymmetric and 3-D FEM models with hexagonal fiber arrangement. 5. Optical Analysis of biological media - continuous wave diffuse spectroscopy
Abstract : The main topic of this thesis is real-time quantification of relevant chromophores and light scattering elements in biological media. The presented methods and instrumentation are based on continuous wave (steady-state) optical measurements of (a) spatially-resolved diffuse reflectance from bulk media and (b) combined spatially-resolved and goniometric measurements of re-emitted light from thin samples.
