  1. 1. Steam Turbine Optimisation for Solar Thermal Power Plant Operation

    Author : James Spelling; Andrew Martin; Magnus Genrup; KTH; []
    Keywords : solar thermal power; steam-turbine; start-up; cool-down; dispatchability increase; koncentrerad solenergi; ångturbin; uppstart; nedkylning; ökad flexibilitet;

    Abstract : The provision of a sustainable energy supply is one of the most important issues facing humanity at the current time, given the strong dependence of social and economic prosperity on the availability of affordable energy and the growing environmental concerns about its production. Solar thermal power has established itself as a viable source of renewable power, capable of generating electricity at some of the most economically attractive rates. READ MORE

  2. 2. Improving Concentrating Solar Power Plant Performance through Steam Turbine Flexibility

    Author : Monika Topel; Björn Laumert; Markus Jöcker; Magnus Genrup; Tony Arts; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Concentrating Solar Power; Steam Turbines; Transients; Start-up; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : The amount of incoming solar energy to earth is greater than any other source. Among existing technologies to harness solar energy there is concentrating solar power (CSP). One advantage of CSP is that is dispatchable, meaning that it can provide power even when the sun is not shining. READ MORE

  3. 3. High temperature corrosion in a biomass-fired power boiler : Reducing furnace wall corrosion in a waste wood-fired power plant with advanced steam data

    Author : Yousef Alipour; Pamela Henderson; Peter Szalalos; Christofer Leygraf; Jan Froitzheim; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; High temperature corrosion; Waterwalls; Power plant corrosion; NOx reducing enviroments; Biomass; Waste wood; Thermodynamic calculation modelling; corrosion-resistance alloy; Furnace wall corrosion; Högtemperaturekorrosion; Eldstadsväggar; kraftverks korrosion; låg Nox mijöer; biomassa; returträ; Termodynamisk modellering; korrosionsbeständighet legering; eldstadskorrosion;

    Abstract : The use of waste (or recycled) wood as a fuel in heat and power stations is becoming more widespread in Sweden (and Europe), because it is CO2 neutral with a lower cost than forest fuel. However, it is a heterogeneous fuel with a high amount of chlorine, alkali and heavy metals which causes more corrosion than fossil fuels or forest fuel. READ MORE

  4. 4. Availability Analysis of Three Different Types of Combined Cycle Power Plants

    Author : Javed S. Alvi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CCC power plants; NOx reduction; IGCC power plants; Makrov process; repair policies; effectiveness; PFBC power plants; active redundancy; backup fuel reducition;

    Abstract : The goal of power plants with higher efficiency and lower environmental risk than conventional power plants has produced three types of combined cycle power plants. These are: 1) the conventional combined cycle (CCC) power plant, 2) the pressurised fluidised bed combustion (PFBC) power plants, and 3) the integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plants. 5. 5. Developing Humidified Gas Turbine Cycles

    Author : Michael Bartlett; KTH; []
    Keywords : advanced gas turbine cycles; evaporative; humidified; power; heat and power;

    Abstract : As a result of their unique heat recovery properties,Humidified Gas Turbine (HGT) cycles have the potential todeliver resource-effective energy to society. The EvaporativeGas Turbine (EvGT) Consortium in Sweden has been studying thesetypes of cycles for nearly a decade, but now stands at acrossroads, with commercial demonstration remaining. READ MORE
