6. Process Development of Bioethanol Production from Wheat and Barley Residues Steam Pretreatment and SSF
Abstract : Bioethanol has received increasing attention as an alternative to petrol due to the current dependency on supplies from other countries and due to the increased concentration of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In this thesis, the development of 2nd generation production processes for bioethanol production from the lignocellulosic part of biomass is discussed. READ MORE

7. Lignocellulosic Ethanol Production Based on Steam Pretreatment and SSF: Process Development through Experiments and Simulations
Abstract : Lignocellulosic materials, such as wood, waste products from the forestry industry, agricultural residues and herbaceous crops, serve as an abundant and comparatively cheap feedstock with the potential to be used for large-scale ethanol production. However, the complex structure of lignocellulosic materials, the presence of various hexose and pentose sugars in hemicellulose, and the presence of various compounds that inhibit the fermenting organism constitute physical barriers that add to the production cost and make full-scale introduction economically more risky. 8. Bioethanol Production: Pretreatment and Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Softwood
Abstract : The enzymatic hydrolysis process can be used to produce bioethanol from softwood, which are the dominating raw material in the Northern hemisphere. This thesis deals with the development of the process focusing on the pretreatment and the enzymatic hydrolysis stages. READ MORE

9. Biogas Production from Lignocelluloses : Pretreatment, Substrate Characterization, Co-digestion and Economic Evaluation
Abstract : Biogas production from organic materials can be used as a renewable vehicle fuel, provide heat and generate electricity and can thereby reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. This thesis focuses on the biogas production based on lignocelluloses. There is an abundant availability of lignocelluloses, constituting 50% of the total biomass worldwide. READ MORE

10. Structural Modifications in Spruce Wood during Steam Explosion Pretreatment
Abstract : The rising price of petroleum and environmental concerns regarding CO2 emissions have increased interest in alternative renewable resources. Biomass can be considered as an excellent alternative raw material. A biorefinery uses biomass and produces fuel, energy, and valueadded chemicals. READ MORE
