  1. 1. A study of slag-steel-inclusion interaction during Ladle treatment

    Author : Johan Björklund; Pär Jönsson; Voicu Brabie; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ladle treatment; steel; slag; inclusions; ladle; refining; vacuum; tool steel; oxide activity; slag models; oxygen; equilibrium; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : The thesis is based on two supplements with two major objectives. In the first supplement equilibrium top slag-steel bulk and inclusions-steel bulk were investigated by comparison between calculated and measured oxygen activity values. This was done by applying different oxide activity models for slags combined with thermodynamic calculations. READ MORE

  2. 2. Growth and removal of inclusions during ladle refining

    Author : Mats Söder; Pär Jönsson; Hae-Geon Lee; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meteorology; inclusions; steel; ladle; cluster growth; modelling; Meteorologi; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of this thesis work has been to further our understanding of the growth and removal of inclusions in gas- and induction-stirred ladles. The primary focus has been on alumina inclusions.Growth mechanisms were studied using data from fundamental mathematical models of gas- and induction-stirred ladles. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thermodynamic Aspects on Inclusion Composition and Oxygen Activity during Ladle Treatment

    Author : Johan Björklund; Pär Jönsson; Margareta Andersson; Leiv Kolbeinsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ladle treatment; thermodynamics; inclusions; steel; slag; equilibrium; ladle treatment; vacuum; oxide activity; oxygen activity.; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Two industrial studies and one set of lab scale trials have been done. In addition, a theoretical study has been done. The main focus has been on non metallic inclusion composition during the ladle refining operation in industrial steel production. Sampling has been done together with careful inclusion determination. 4. 4. A Study on Particle Motion and Deposition Rate : Application in Steel Flows

    Author : Peiyuan Ni; Pär Jönsson; Lage Jonsson; Mikael Ersson; Stein Tore Johansson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; steel flow; ladle teeming; continuous casting; non-metallic inclusion behavior; particle deposition; nozzle clogging; numerical simulation.;

    Abstract : Non-metallic inclusions in molten steel have received worldwide attention due to their serious influence on both the steel product quality and the steel production process. These inclusions may come from the de-oxidation process, the re-oxidation by air and/or slag due to an entrainment during steel transfer, and so on. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Study on the Correlation between Ladle Glaze and Non-Metallic Inclusions in the Ladle Treatment

    Author : Minho Song; Du Sichen; Jerome P. Downey; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-metallic inclusions; ladle treatment; ladle glaze; tracer; tool steel; viscosity; activity; modelling; Al2O3-CaO-MgO-SiO2 system; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the correlation between ladle glaze and non-metallic inclusions in the ladle treatment was studied. A number of industrial trials with full scale ladle and laboratory works were performed to investigate the inclusions in the ladle treatment. READ MORE
