  3. 23. A Study on the Reaction between MgO Based Refractories and Slag-Towards the Development of Carbon-free Lining Material

    Author : Huijun Wang; Sichen Du; Stuart Millman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MgO refractory; lining material; carbon-free; clean steel; ladle glaze; slag penetration; dissolution mechanism; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : In present thesis, the fundamental studies on the reaction between MgO based refractories and slag were undertaken for the development of a carbon-free bonding MgO lining material. Alumina was selected as a potential binder material. Due to MgO-Al2O3 chemical reaction, the developed refractory was bonded by MgO·Al2O3 spinel phase. READ MORE

  4. 24. Influence of Stirring on the Inclusion Characteristics during Vacuum Degassing in a Ladle

    Author : Charlotte Médioni; Pär Jönsson; Robert Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vacuum degassing treatment; inclusions; ladle eye; stirring intensity; denitrogenization; desulphurization.;

    Abstract : Steel cleanliness as a function of stirring practice during vacuum degassing treatment have been investigated in industrial studies at the steel plants of SSAB Special Steels in Oxelösund and Uddeholm AB in Hagfors. The cleanliness was examined with regards to the contents of sulphur, nitrogen and large inclusions (>10µm). READ MORE

  5. 25. Parameters influencing inclusion compositions in Al-killed steel melts during a secondary refining process

    Author : Takanori Yoshioka; Andrey Karasev; Pär Jönsson; Joohyun Park; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-metallic inclusion; ladle furnace; RH; thermodynamics; contact angle; Al2O3; MgO•Al2O3 spinel; calcium aluminate; CaS.;

    Abstract :      This study was carried out to clarify the factors influencing the evolution of inclusions in Al-killed steel melts during a secondary refining process. First, a case-hardening steel was the subject of study to understand the factors influencing the inclusion compositions in the steel melt. READ MORE
