  1. 16. Light, stress and herbivory : from photoprotection to trophic interactions using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism

    Author : Martin Frenkel; Jon Moen; Stefan Jansson; Don Cipollini; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; photoprotection; herbivory; light-stress; jasmonate; fitness; FDE; dual-choice; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Photosynthesis is the most important process for nearly all life on earth. Photosynthetic organisms capture and transfer light energy from the sun into chemical energy which in turn provides a resource base for heterotrophic organisms. Natural light regimes are irregular and vary over magnitudes. READ MORE

  2. 17. Stress responses of Arabidopsis plants with a varying level of non-photochemical quenching

    Author : Hanna Johansson Jänkänpää; Stefan Jansson; Barbara Demmig-Adams; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; NPQ; PsbS; photosynthesis; field experiment; metabolomics; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : When light energy input exceeds the capacity for photosynthesis the plant need to dissipate the excess energy and this is done through non-photo-chemical quenching (NPQ). Photochemical quenching (photosynthesis), NPQ and fluorescence are three alternative faiths of excited chlorophylls. PsbS associates to photosystem II and is involved in NPQ. READ MORE

  3. 18. Constructing a timetable of autumn senescence in aspen

    Author : Johanna Keskitalo; Stefan Jansson; Howard Thomas; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus tremula; autumn senescence; senescence-associated genes; cellular timetable; transcriptional timetable; cDNA microarrays; EST sequencing; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : During the development and lifecycle of multicellular organisms, cells have to die, and this occurs by a process called programmed cell death or PCD, which can be separated from necrosis or accidental cell death (Pennell and Lamb, 1997). Senescence is the terminal phase in the development of an organism, organ, tissue or cell, where nutrients are remobilized from the senescing parts of the plant into other parts, and the cells of the senescing organ or tissue undergo PCD if the process is not reversed in time. 4. 19. The labyrinth of protein classification: a pipeline forselection and classification of biological data

    Author : Benedetta Pelosi; Neus Visa; Antonio Barragan; Stefan Jansson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pipeline; filtering; machine learning; deep learning; computational biology; bioinformatics; mitochondrial metabolism; carotenoid biosynthesis; orthologs; protein analyses; statistics; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics; statistik; Statistics;

    Abstract : Recent progress in fundamental biological sciences and medicine has considerably increased the quantity ofdata that can be studied and processed. The main limitation now is not retrieving data, but rather extractinguseful biological insights from the large datasets accumulated. READ MORE

  5. 20. The roles of Lhcb1 och Lhcb2 in regulation of photosynthetic light harvesting

    Author : Malgorzata Pietrzykowska; Stefan Jansson; Jean-David Rochaix; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; Lhcb1; Lhcb2; LHCII; state transitions; phosphorylation; biology; biologi;

    Abstract : Photosynthesis in higher plants relies upon collection of light by chlorophyll molecules associated with light harvesting chlorophyll a/b-binding (LHC) proteins. The two most abundant of these are Lhcb1 and Lhcb2, which make up light harvesting complex (LHC) II trimers. READ MORE
