  1. 11. Strategies to improve outcome in patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction treated with primary PCI

    Author : Tim Tödt; Eva Swahn; Jan Engvall; Magnus Janzon; Stefan James; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) caused by a ruptured atherosclerotic plaque with overlying thrombosis leads to ischemia and progressively to the death of the myocardial cells supplied by the affected coronary artery. Rapid reperfusion with primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) in an experienced centre is the preferred therapy for these patients. READ MORE

  2. 12. Impact of Risk Factors and Treatment in Coronary Heart Disease

    Author : Lena Björck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : coronary disease; myocardinal infarction; risk factors; smoking; lipid levels;

    Abstract : Aims: The aim of the present study was to explore how risk factors and medication influence clinical presentation and mortality in coronary heart disease (CHD) and to explain how much of the decrease in CHD mortality in Sweden that could be attributed to medical and surgical treatments, and how much to changes in cardiovascular risk factors. Subjects and methods: We included 781 consecutive patients with a first acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during the period 1994 to 2002, to investigate trends in the use of lipid-lowering treatment, and changes in serum lipids. 3. 13. Cognitive function after cardiac arest and targeted temperature management

    Author : Gisela Lilja; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest; cognition; neurological outcome; Quality of Life; Social participation;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on cognitive impairment in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) survivors with the main aim to evaluate possible effects by targeted temperature management. Secondary aims are to describe the prevalence of cognitive impairment in a large group of OHCA-survivors, the related symptoms of psychological distress and the actual effect of cognitive impairment for the patient’s ability to participate in everyday life and in the society (as work). 4. 14. Early Risk Stratification, Treatment and Outcome in ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction

    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Acute myocardial infarction; Thrombolysis; Troponin; Electrocardiography; Natriuretic peptide; Prognosis; Prehospital thrombolysis; Treatment delay; Mortality; Registry; Clinical trial; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : We evaluated, in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with thrombolytics, admission Troponin T (tnT), ST-segment resolution and admission N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) for early risk stratification as well as time delays and outcome in real life patients according to prehospital or in-hospital thrombolytic treatment. Also, baseline characteristics, treatments and outcome in patients enrolled in the ASSENT-2 trial in Sweden and in patients not enrolled were evaluated. READ MORE

  5. 15. Impact of chronic total occlusions, arterial access site, and pretreatment with antiplatelet drugs on mortality in patients with ischemic heart disease: A report from the SWEDEHEART registry

    Author : Christian Dworeck; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : Impact of chronic total occlusions, arterial access site and pretreatment with antiplatelet drugs on mortality in patients with ischemic heart disease: A report from the SWEDEHEART registry Background Treatment of ischemic heart disease has advanced substantially in the past half-century. However, despite these achievements the survival rates in high-income countries such as Sweden have reached a plateau in the last decade. READ MORE
