  1. 1. Integration and topology of membrane proteins

    Author : Carolina Boekel; Gunnar von Heijne; IngMarie Nilsson; Stephen High; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; insertion; Sec61; translocation; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Membrane proteins comprise around 20-30% of most proteomes. They play important roles in most biochemical pathways. All receptors and ion channels are membrane proteins, which make them attractive targets for drug design. Membrane proteins insert and fold co-translationally into the endoplasmic reticular membrane of eukaryotic cells. READ MORE

  2. 2. Galaxies in the epoch of reionization : Investigating the high-redshift galaxy population through simulations and observations

    Author : Christian Binggeli; Erik Zackrisson; Sofia Ramstedt; Martin Sahlén; Stephen Wilkins; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; galaxies: high-redshift; galaxies: ISM; galaxies: evolution; reionization; Lyman continuum; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Abstract : The cosmic reionization is the last major gas phase transition in cosmic history, yet it remains poorly understood. Current constraints indicate that early star-forming galaxies drove the reionization process through producing and releasing large numbers of ionizing photons into the intergalactic medium. 3. 3. Towards consonance in working conditions, health and performance aboard high-performance marine craft

    Author : Manudul Pahansen de Alwis; Karl Garme; Anders Rosén; Stephen Myers; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-speed craft; human factors; whole-body vibration; epidemiology; pain; fatigue; höghastighetsfartyg; mänskliga faktorn; helkroppsvibrationer; epidemiologi; smärta; trötthet; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Abstract : The High-Performance Marine Craft (HPMC) is a complex man-machine system dealing with the stochastic nature of the sea. The occupants of these craft are challenged by the strenuous work environments resulting in various detrimental conditions and reducing the overall performance of the system. READ MORE

  4. 4. Building Physics Tools: Needs, Use and the Lack of Use in the Building Process. Modelling Non-Isothermal Moisture Flow and Frost Penetration

    Author : Stephen Burke; Avdelningen för Byggnadsfysik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; isothermal; costs; building physics tools; moisture damages; learning loop; experience; causal loop diagrams; non-isothermal; moisture transport;

    Abstract : Despite advances in material science, computers and building technology, building failures related to building physics continue to occur. These failures range from a building not meeting its energy use target to a building causing people to become ill from exposure to various chemicals or biological organisms. READ MORE

  5. 5. Psychosocial situation of parents of children with congenital heart disease

    Author : Stephen Lawoko; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Congenital heart disease; parents; distress; hopelessness; quality of life; social support; satisfaction with care;

    Abstract : Background: Current knowledge of the psychosocial situation of parents of congenital heart disease children (PCCHD) should be interpreted with caution. Most studies may not be representative of the population in question, and tend to concentrate mainly on describing PCCHD's distress experiences. READ MORE
