1. The An-Archical State : Logics of Legitimacy in the Social Contract Tradition
Abstract : The modern state is today under great pressure. In the face of globalization, many theorists seek to rethink the boundaries of the state. They call for a transformation of the state from the national to the global level. But there is a deeper theoretical question at stake. READ MORE

2. Biophysical studies of membrane interacting peptides derived from viral and Prion proteins
Abstract : This thesis focuses on peptides derived from the Prion, Doppel and Influenza haemagglutinin proteins in the context of bilayer interactions with model membranes and live cells. The studies involve spectroscopic techniques like fluorescence, fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), circular and linear dichroism (CD and LD), confocal fluorescence microscopy and NMR. 3. Regulatory Factors that Reveal Three Distinct Adipocytes : The Brown, the White and the Brite
Abstract : Adipose tissues have long been considered to derive from a common origin. Even the functionally different brown and white adipose tissues were generalized to share a common origin. Brown adipose tissue is a highly innervated and vascularised tissue containing multilocular and multimitochondrial brown adipocytes. READ MORE

4. The optical properties of automatically darkening welding filters based on liquid crystal technology
Abstract : This thesis addresses the problem of the poor optical angular properties displayed by automatically darkening welding filters that are based on liquid crystal technology. It is shown that by reducing thetwist-angle present in the liquid crystal cell to below that of 90° together with employment of a novel polariser arrangement, an optical shutter design using a double-cell construction is obtained thatpossesses a reduced angular transmittance variation when in the activated phase. 5. Material Hygiene : An EcoDesign mindset for recycling of products
Abstract : In recent years the end-of-life phase has come into focus. European Union directives have been issued regulating certain product groups and producer responsibility. Vehicles and electronic products are the first to be identified and targeted. EU environmental legislation acts as a driver for increased reuse, recycling and recovery. READ MORE
