  1. 1. On the evolution and function of aposematic coloration

    Author : Gabriella Gamberale-Stille; James Mallet; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoologi; Zoology;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  2. 2. Stabilitly analysis of large structures founded on rock : an introductory study

    Author : Fredrik Johansson; Håkan Stille; Anders Fredriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggnadsteknik; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : Previous investigations of Swedish and international dams have shown difficultiesto assess the safety against failure in rock foundations. The problem was alsogiven additional interest in connection to the recent construction of the newbridge at Traneberg in Stockholm. READ MORE

  3. 3. Rock Mass Response to Coupled Mechanical Thermal Loading : Äspö Pillar Stability Experiment, Sweden

    Author : J. Christer Andersson; Håkan Stille; Charles Fairhurst; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Yielding; Spalling; Rock mass strength; Confinement; Fracturing; Tensile failure; Shear failure; Displacement; Acoustic Emission; Heating; Stress; Back calculation; Radial expansion; Mining engineering; Gruvteknik;

    Abstract : The geological disposal of nuclear waste, in underground openings and the long-term performance of these openings demand a detailed understanding of fundamental rock mechanics. A full scale field experiment: Äspö Pillar Stability Experiment was conducted at a depth of 450 m in sparsely fractured granitic rock to examine the rock mass response between two deposition holes. 4. 4. Colour patterns in warning displays

    Author : Marianne Aronsson; Gabriella Gamberale-Stille; Olof Leimar; Candy Rowe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aposematism; warning colouration; colour patterns; avoidance learning; generalization behaviour; signal design; signal evolution; conspicuousness; mimicry; etologi; Ethology;

    Abstract : In aposematism a prey species use bright colours, often combined with a black contrasting pattern, to signal unprofitability as prey to potential predators. Although there are several different hypotheses about the presence of these internally contrasting patterns, there is little experimental evidence of any beneficial effects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Block stability analysis using deterministic and probabilistic methods

    Author : Mehdi Bagheri; Håkan Stille; Charlie C. Li; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Block stability analysis; Model uncertainty; Joint relaxation; Partial factor; Sensitivity analysis;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a discussion of design tools for analysing block stability around a tunnel. First, it was determined that joint length and field stress have a significant influence on estimating block stability. READ MORE
