  1. 1. Seabirds as food for thought : An integrative study on seabird ecology and ecosystem services in changing marine systems

    Author : Martina Kadin; Thorsten Blenckner; Morten Frederiksen; Olof Olsson; Johan Elmberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seabirds; ecosystem services; social-ecological systems; marine systems; fisheries; foraging ecology; provisioning behaviour; common murre; common guillemot; Uria aalge; Stora Karlsö; Baltic Sea; naturresurshushållning; Natural Resources Management;

    Abstract : The importance of the benefits that humans obtain from the oceans is increasingly recognized, along with the rapid decline in marine resources that threatens these benefits. Studying seabirds – top predators in marine ecosystems, can provide insights about multiple pressures and the state of the oceans. READ MORE

  2. 2. Across landscapes and seascapes : The movement ecology of diving and flying guillemots and gulls during breeding

    Author : Thomas J. Evans; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Keywords : Uria aalge; Larus fuscus; Laridae; animal flight; foraging ecology; movement ecology; seabirds;

    Abstract : Most seabirds breed colonially, at which time they make central-place foraging trips. Parents must collect food both for themselves and for egg production/chick-rearing. READ MORE

  3. 3. Prehistoric human impact on wild mammalian populations in Scandinavia

    Author : Hans Ahlgren; Kerstin Lidén; Anders Angerbjörn; Anders Götherström; Gørill Nilsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; hunter-gatherers; Baltic Sea; Mesolithic period; grey seal; harp seal; mountain hare; moose; ancient DNA; hunting; translocation; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi; Scientific Archaeology;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to study the interactions of pre-agricultural societies in Scandinavia with wild mammals, for example in terms of hunting and translocation. More specifically, the aim is to investigate the possibility of identifying examples of overexploitation, targeted hunting or translocation of wild mammals in prehistoric Scandinavia, and to discuss the implications this could have had for both the wild animals and the humans. 4. 4. Determination of some polybrominated flame retardants in biota, sediment and sewage sludge

    Author : Ulla Sellström; Janneche Utne Skaare; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are mainly used in different polymers, and can be released to the environment during industrial processes, during the entire life-time of the flame-retarded product and after disposal. The aim of the present study was to gain knowledge about occurrence and concentrations of some BFRs in the environment, to search for sources for these chemicals and to investigate changes in concentrations over time.
