1. Industrial Digital Fabrication Using Inkjet Technology
Abstract : The use of acoustic waves initiated by the deformation of a microchannel is one method for generating monodisperse, micrometer-sized droplets from small orifices and is employed in piezo-electric inkjet printheads. These printheads are used in both graphical printing and digital fabrication, where functionalities, such as optical, biological, electrical or mechanical, are being produced locally. READ MORE

2. Integration of Surface Acoustic Wave and Microfluidic Technologies for Liquid-Phase Sensing Applications
Abstract : This thesis discusses a new concept for construction of a novel SAW in-liquid sensor employing surface acoustic wave resonance (SAR) in a one-port configuration. In this concept, the reflective gratings of a one-port SAW resonator are employed as mass loading-sensing elements, while the SAW transducer is protected from the measurement environment, reducing power losses significantly. 3. Uncertainty and Robustness in Aerospace Structures
Abstract : Engineering is not an exact science. In fact, all engineering activity contain some degree of assumption, simplification, idealization, and abstraction. When engineered creations meet reality, every manufactured product behaves differently. This variation can be detrimental to product quality and functionality. READ MORE

4. Modelling of cathode-plasma interaction in short high-intensity electric arc : Application to Gas Tungsten Arc Welding
Abstract : In arc welding the quality of the weld is strongly influenced by the thermal history of the workpiece which is itself governed by the electric arc heat source. The models for predicting weld properties thus need a good evaluation of the distribution of the heat input from thearc to the workpiece. READ MORE

5. Interior Flow and Formation of Plain Orifice Sprays
Abstract : This thesis will summarize recent experimental observations of spray formation in highly atomizing plainorifce sprays, the kind commonly produced by fuel injectors in compression ignition internal combustionengines. Two special interactions will be addressed in detail: primary atomization under elevated ambientpressures and temperatures and orifce ow effects on primary atomization. READ MORE
