  1. 1. An experimental study of fiber suspensions between counter-rotating discs

    Author : Charlotte Ahlberg; Daniel Söderberg; Fredrik Lundell; Srdjan Sasic; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fiber suspension flow; rotating discs. shear flow; self-organization of fibers; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : The behavior of fibers suspended in a flow between two counter-rotating discs has been studied experimentally. This is inspired by the refining process in the papermaking process where cellulose fibers are ground between discs in order to change performance in the papermaking process and/or qualities of the final paper product. 2. 2. A study of turbulence and scalar mixing in a wall-jet using direct numerical simulation

    Author : Daniel Ahlman; Arne V. Johansson; Lars-Erik Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningmekanik; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Direct numerical simulation is used to study the dynamics and mixing in a turbulent plane wall-jet. The investigation is undertaken in order to extend the knowledge base of the influence of the wall on turbulent dynamics and mixing. The mixing statistics produced can also be used to evaluate and develop models for mixing and combustion. READ MORE

  3. 3. Numerical studies of turbulent wall-jets for mixing and combustion applications

    Author : Daniel Ahlman; Arne Johansson; Geert Brethouwer; Micheal Manhart; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Direct numerical simulation is used to study turbulent plane wall-jets. The investigation is aimed at studying dynamics, mixing and reactions in wall bounded flows. The produced mixing statistics can be used to evaluate and develop models for mixing and combustion. READ MORE

  4. 4. CFD of Duct Acoustics for Turbocharger Applications

    Author : Emma Alenius; Mats Åbom; Laszlo Fuchs; Federico Piscaglia; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aero acoustics; Large Eddy Simulation; IC-engines; 1D models; turbocharger; orifice plate; Acoustics; Akustik; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : The search for quieter internal combustion engines drives the quest for a better understanding of the acoustic properties of engine duct components. In this work the main focus is the turbocharger compressor and a discussion of turbocharger acoustics and earlier work within the area is presented, giving an insight into its sound generating mechanisms and the damping effect it has on pressure pulses, i. 5. 5. Analysis and control of transitional shear flows using global modes

    Author : Shervin Bagheri; Dan Henningson; Alessandro Bottaro; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; flow control; hydrodynamic stability; global modes; jet in crossflow; flat-plate boundary layer; laminar-turbulent transition; Arnoldi method; Koopman modes; balanced truncation; direct numerical simulations.; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : In this thesis direct numerical simulations are used to investigate two phenomenain shear flows: laminar-turbulent transition over a flat plate and periodicvortex shedding induced by a jet in cross flow. The emphasis is on understanding and controlling the flow dynamics using tools from dynamical systems and control theory. READ MORE
