  1. 1. Fatigue strength of engineering materials : the influence of environment and porosity

    Author : Jan Linder; Bengt Lindberg; Lennart Josefsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Stainless steel; cast aluminium; hardened steels; fatigue; corrosion; crack propagation; spot weld; porosity; Other materials science; Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The objective of this work was to use LEFM in order to assess the detrimental influence of surrounding chloride-containing environments for stainless steels, hardened steel as well as for a cast aluminium alloy. An additional aim was also to use LEFM to assess the influence of porosity on the fatigue properties for different commercial cast aluminium alloys and manufacturing methods. READ MORE

    Abstract : Through 270 million years of evolution, the finely tuned hierarchical structure of wood has been optimized for efficient nutrient transport and exceptional mechanical stability. Its distinctive orthotropic constitution can provide inspiration and design opportunities for the development of novel functional materials. READ MORE

  3. 3. Microstructure and high temperature properties of Mo(Si,Al)2 - The effect of particle strengthening and alloying

    Author : Aina Edgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : High temperature heating processes within the steel industries result in significant emissions of CO2, primarily due to the combustion of fossil fuels. Electrification of these processes, such as through the implementation of resistive heating elements, holds great promise for reducing emissions. READ MORE

    Abstract : Efforts to address environmental concerns have resulted in new regulations designed to plan the reduction of plastic and synthetic polymer usage, necessitating the search for sustainable natural alternatives with comparable cost-effectiveness and mechanical performance. Thermomechanical pulp (TMP) fibres are one of the most affordable natural fibres that have no chemical refining in production, production have a high yield of 90-98% and TMP fibres have been demonstrated to improve the mechanical characteristics (strength, stiffness and toughness) of wood-polymer composites (WPCs) compared to the pure polymer. 5. 5. Fracture mechanics studies of non-yielding materials like concrete : modelling of tensile fracture and applied strength analyses

    Author : Per-Johan Gustafsson; Institutioner vid LTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cracking; corners; test-specimens; strength; tension; fracture mechanics; strain localization; size-effect; flexural strength; LEFM; fictitious crack model; Weibull; FEM; pipes; shear strength; concrete; diagonal tension;

    Abstract : Fracture mechanics studies of non-yielding materials are presented. The studies are based on theoretical models for the macroscopical mechanical behaviour of materials during tensile stress induced fracture. A number of applied numercal analysis are indicated. READ MORE
