  1. 1. The Temporomandibular Joint in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis : Psychosocial, clinical, imaging and parotid saliva biomarkers

    Author : Alexandra Dimitrijevic Carlsson; Per Alstergren; Kerstin Wahlund; Carin Starkhammar Johansson; Martina. Frodlund; Bijar Ghafouri; Robin Kahn; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomarkers; Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis; Magnetic resonance imaging; Orofacial pain; Parotid gland; Plasma; Psychological distress; Psychosocial; Saliva; Stress; Temporomandibular joint; Biomarkörer; Juvenil idiopatisk artrit; Käkled; Magnetisk resonanstomografi; Orofacial smärta; Saliv; Spottkörtel; Stress;

    Abstract : Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatic disease in children. The disease can affect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and cause orofacial growth disturbances, pain, and jaw dysfunction. TMJ arthritis is often asymptomatic and therefore a challenging joint to diagnose. READ MORE

  2. 2. Challenge models and biomarkers of human intestinal barrier function

    Author : María Fernanda Roca Rubio; Julia König; Robert J Brummer; Richard Forsgård; Kaatje Lenaerts; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacterial translocation; biomarkers; challenge models; intestinal barrier function; intestinal permeability; irritable bowel syndrome; physiological stress; psychological stress;

    Abstract : The intestinal barrier is an essential component in maintaining human health, and several diseases and disorders have been associated with a disrupted intestinal barrier function. To evaluate the efficacy of different interventions intended to strengthen intestinal barrier function, there is a need for both appropriate challenge models as well as easily accessible biomarkers. 3. 3. Application and interpretation of biomarkers in ecotoxicology - from molecular to individual level responses

    Author : Sara Furuhagen; Elena Gorokhova; Carlos Barata; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biomarkers; oxidative stress; ORAC; reproduction; Daphnia magna; toxicity; environmental stress; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The use of biomarkers is considered a promising alternative, or complement, to traditional ecotoxicological assays. Toxic effects are often initially manifested at the molecular or biochemical level, biomarkers are therefore used as sensitive indicators of toxic exposure. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hitting the mark : studies of alterations in behaviour and fertility in ethinyl estradiol-exposed zebrafish and search related biomarkers

    Author : Nasim Reyhanian Caspillo; Inger Porsch Hällström; Per-Erik Olsson; Håkan Olsén; Leif Norrgren; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disrupting compounds; 17α-ethinylestradiol; fertility; anxiety; behaviour; zebrafish; biomarkers; stress; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we have analysed the effects of EE2 on non-reproductive behaviours and fertility. We have showed that two doses of EE2 in male adult short-term exposures evokes opposite behaviours in the novel tank test. READ MORE
