1. Detection of Myocardial Ischemia using Real-Time Myocardial Contrast Echocardiography
University dissertation from Malmö : Malmö University. Faculty of Health and SocietyAbstract : Echocardiography is an ideal clinical method for obtaining information about morphology and function of the heart. Echocardiography is more accessible, mobile and inexpensive compared to other imaging techniques and has become the perhaps most used diagnostic method in cardiology during recent years. READ MORE

2. Cardiac morphology and dynamics in Swedish elite orienteers : Evaluation of the right and left ventricle by two-dimensional and doppler echocardiography
University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis UpsaliensisAbstract : Background. Between 1979 and 1992, 16 (15 males and 1 female) sudden unexpected cardiac deaths(SUCD) were reported in Swedish orienteers. Compared with previous reports in young athletes there was a 10- to 100-fold increase in the sudden death rate in young male elite orienteers during this period. The mean age was 25 years (range 18-32 years). READ MORE

3. Takotsubo stress cardiomyopathy and different types of stress
University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Science and Education, SödersjukhusetAbstract : Myocardial infarction with normal coronary angiography (MINCA) is an important subgroup of myocardial infarction for which the prevalence, underlying pathophysiology, prognosis and optimal management are still largely unknown. Interest in and awareness of MINCA has increased in recent years due to the frequent use of coronary angiography, the description of Takotsubo stress cardiomyopathy (TSC) and new sensitive troponin assays. 4. Importance of cardiac reserve for evaluation and prediction of cardiac function and morbidity assessed by low-dose dobutamine stress echocardiography
University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Clinical Science and Education, SödersjukhusetAbstract : This thesis aimed to evaluate the cardiac reserves capacity to be used to predict treatment effects, sub clinical heart disease and to evaluate b1-adrenoceptor (AR) gene polymorphism (Ser49Gly). Studies were performed in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, in rats (young, healthy, diabetic and hypertensive), in mice (immunized against the ?1AR) and in heart-transplanted patients. READ MORE

5. Nitrates and Left Ventricular Dysfunction
University dissertation from Erik Tingberg Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund Cardiology, Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, SwedenAbstract : Use of beta-blockers and inhibitors of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) is established practice in the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). Clinical studies also suggest beneficial long-term effects of nitrates in CHF. READ MORE
