  1. 21. Performance problem diagnosis in cloud infrastructures

    Author : Olumuyiwa Ibidunmoye; Erik Elmroth; Guilliano Casale; Viktoria Fodor; Henrik Björklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Systems Performance; Performance anomalies; Performance bottlenecks; Cloud infrastructures; Cloud Computing; Cloud Services; Cloud Computing Performance; Performance problems; Performance anomaly detection; Performance bottleneck identification; Performance Root-cause Analysis; Computer Systems; datorteknik; Computer Science; datalogi;

    Abstract : Cloud datacenters comprise hundreds or thousands of disparate application services, each having stringent performance and availability requirements, sharing a finite set of heterogeneous hardware and software resources. The implication of such complex environment is that the occurrence of performance problems, such as slow application response and unplanned downtimes, has become a norm rather than exception resulting in decreased revenue, damaged reputation, and huge human-effort in diagnosis. 2. 22. Simplified dynamic analysis of railway bridges under high-speed trains

    Author : Christoffer Johansson; Costin Pacoste; Raid Karoumi; Jose M Goicolea; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dynamic; Railway bridge; High-speed train; Moving load; Multi-span beam; Probabilistic;

    Abstract : The world-wide development of new high-speed rail lines has led to more stringent design requirements for railway bridges. This is mainly due to the fact that a train at high speeds can cause resonance in the bridge superstructure. READ MORE

  3. 23. Hematopoietic stem cells: c-mpl and TNF receptor function

    Author : Veslemøy Ramsfjell; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tumor necrosis factor-a.; in vivo reconstitution; ex vivo expansion; long-term bone marrow culture; differentiation; proliferation; synergy; Hematopoietic stem cells; thrombopoietin; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) are crucial to life. Daily and throughout the life span of an individual they are responsible for replacing approximately 10(12) mature blood cells. Mature cells are, for example, required for transportation of oxygen, defense against infections and to stop bleeding. READ MORE

  4. 24. Impact of glucose feed rate on productivity and recombinant protein quality in Escherichia coli

    Author : Anna Maria Sandén; Gen Larsson; Gunnar Lidén; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Escherichia coli; recombinant protein production; fed-batch; feed profile; specific growth rate; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The goal of this work was to contribute to the fed-batch process optimisation task by deriving parameters that have considerable impact on productivity as well as product quality The chosen parameters were I) the design of the glucose feed profile, II) the choice of induction strategy, with respect to the method of addition, and III) the time of the induction, with respect to the specific glucose consumption rate.The present fed-batch experiments using the lacUV5-promoter, for production of b-galactosidase, have shown that a high glucose feed rate gives a specific production rate, qp, that is twice as high, after induction, compared to a feed rate that is 2. 5. 25. Noise and Saturation Properties of Fiber Optical

    Author : Per Kylemark; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonlinear fiber optics; four-wave mixing; single-pumped; regeneration; saturation; dual-pumped; noise figure; parametric amplification;

    Abstract : Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifiers (FOPAs) are based on a highly efficient Four-wave Mixing process in highly nonlinearfibers and have gained a lot of interest since it was shown that ahigh gain can be obtained. They are multi-functional devices thatare not only limited to amplifying signals, but their wide range ofapplicability also include wavelength conversion, pulse-generation,optical sampling and also regeneration at very high bit-rates.
