21. Impact of cereal food structures on metabolic effects and satiety : the role of processing and product formulation
Abstract : Insulin resistance, high blood glucose and raised total blood cholesterol are major risk factors for cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Partly they are caused by overweight and obesity. Diet is an important modifiable determinant for these risk factors and understanding how food characteristics, e.g. READ MORE

22. Role of c-Myc in the regulation of rDNA transcription by RNA polymerase I
Abstract : Ribosomal biogenesis and protein translation are finely coordinated with cell proliferation. All three RNA polymerases Pol I, II, and III are utilized for highly efficient and accurate ribosome production. The transcriptional activity of Pol I has been found to be a key determinant for ribosome biogenesis. READ MORE

23. Understanding the Educational Gradient in Mortality
Abstract : There is a positive association between education and longevity. Individuals with a university degree tend to live longer than high school graduates who, in turn, live longer than those with compulsory education. READ MORE

24. To degrade or not to degrade : protein handling by the proteasome
Abstract : The proteasome, a large multi-subunit protease that degrades proteins, must be able to distinguish between substrates deemed for destruction and accessory proteins that should be spared. The shuttle factor Rad23 operates in close proximity to the proteasome in order to deliver proteins for their degradation. READ MORE

25. Crystallographic studies of enzymes involved in biosynthesis of fatty acids : beta-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein synthase II and delta9-stearoyl-ACP desaturase
Abstract : In the biosynthesis of fatty acids, the beta-Ketoacyl Acyl Carrier Protein Synthases (Kas) catalyse chain elongation by the addition of two-carbon units derived from malonyl-ACP, to an acyl group bound to CoA or the small protein ACP. These enzymes are potential targets for antibiotics against bacterial or parasitical infections and their mammalian counterparts could hopefully be used as drug targets against certain cancers and obesity.
