21. Interaction of water with supplementary cementitious materials: Hydration mechanism, microstructure and moisture transport
Abstract : Supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) offer a sustainable solution to reduce carbon emissions from the production of cement and concrete. This dissertation explores the impact of SCMs and the related additives on the hydration process of cementitious materials, which can affect their microstructure and transport properties. READ MORE

22. Structural Identification of Civil Engineering Structures
Abstract : The assumptions encountered during the analysis and design of civil engineering structures lead to a difference in the structural behavior between calculations based models and real structures. Moreover, the recent approach in civil engineering nowadays is to rely on the performance-based design approaches, which give more importance for durability, serviceability limit states, and maintenance. 23. Reduction of Aerodynamic Forcing inTransonic Turbomachinery : Numerical Studies on Forcing Reduction Techniques
Abstract : Due to more and more aggressive designs in turbomachinery, assuring the structural integrity of its components has become challenging. Also influenced by this trend is blade design, where lighter and slimmer blades, in combination with higher loading, lead to an increased risk of failure, e.g. in the form of blade vibration. 24. Flexural Strengthening of Reinforced Concrete Beams Using Externally Bonded CFRP--An Innovative Method for the Application of Prestressed CFRP Laminates
Abstract : A large number of existing bridges in European countries are structurally deficient and functionally obsolete due to the deterioration of aging bridges and the lack of structural and geometric capacity to accommodate the increasing traffic volume and load levels. To meet the demand for holistic and effective strengthening techniques the SUREBRIDGE solution is proposed for the refurbishment of concrete bridges, which includes the technique of using prestressed carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate as externally bonded reinforcement for flexural strengthening. 25. Progressive landslides in long natural slopes : Formation, potential extension and configuration of finished slides in strain-softening soils
Abstract : After the large landslide in Tuve (Gothenburg, 1977), the author began developing a finite difference model for slope stability analysis taking the deformation-softening of soft sensitive clays into consideration. In the model, the mean down-slope deformation in each element caused by normal forces is maintained compatible with the deformation generated by shear stresses. READ MORE
