  1. 1. Temporal dynamics of brain plasticity : characterizing brain structural changes during skill acquisition

    Author : Tomás Mediavilla; Daniel Marcellino; Alexandra Badea; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Motor learning; brain plasticity; structural plasticity; magnetic resonance imaging; voxel-based morphometry; tractography; connectivity; motor cortex; posterior parietal cortex; cerebellum; vesicular glutamate transporter;

    Abstract : Traditionally, structural plasticity in the human brain has been considered to follow a linear or asymptotic increase over the course of training. However, recent studies using structural MRI revealed transient increases in grey matter volume (GMV) with learning. READ MORE

  2. 2. Seed mobility and connectivity in changing rural landscapes

    Author : Alistair G. Auffret; Sara Cousins; Robin Pakeman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; Conservation; Functional connectivity; Historical ecology; Human-mediated dispersal; Invasive species; Landscape Ecology; Long-distance dispersal; Restoration; Seed bank; Seed dispersal; Seed rain; Structural connectivity; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The success or failure of many organisms to respond to the challenges of habitat destruction and a warming climate lies in the ability of plant species to disperse between isolated habitats or to migrate to new ranges. European semi-natural grasslands represent one of the world's most species-rich habitats at small scales, but agricultural intensification during the 20th century has meant that many plant species are left only on small fragments of former habitat. 3. 3. Small remnant habitats : Important structures in fragmented landscapes

    Author : Jessica Lindgren; Sara Cousins; Regina Lindborg; Adam Kimberley; Ove Eriksson; Hans Henrik Bruun; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alpha-diversity; Beta-diversity; Biological pest control; Canopy cover; Connectivity; Ecosystem function; Fleshy fruits; Forest edge; Forest management; Forest specialist species; Fragmentation; Functional diversity; Gamma-diversity; Grassland specialist species; Green infrastructure; Habitat amount hypothesis; Island biogeography; Midfield islets; Plant diversity; Plant-pollinator interaction; Pollination; Remnant habitat; Seed predation; Small habitats; Species richness; Structural heterogeneity; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The world-wide intensification of agriculture has led to a decline in species richness due to land use change, isolation, and fragmentation of natural and semi-natural habitats in agricultural and forestry landscapes. As a consequence, there is a current landscape management focus on the importance of green infrastructure to mitigate biodiversity decline and preserve ecosystem functions e. READ MORE

  4. 4. High pressure structural investigations using single crystal techniques : influence of pressure on Jahn-Teller distorted alkali manganese fluorides

    Author : Stefan Carlson; Stefan Werner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi; strukturkemi; Structural Chemistry;

    Abstract : The results from high-pressure single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies of some ternary sodium transition metal fluorides are presented. The structures of NaMnF4, Na2MnF5, Na3MnF6 and Na3ScF6 have been investigated at high pressures, and in connection with these studies the Na5Mn3F14 structure has been investigated at ambient pressure. 5. 5. Structural study of nano-structured materials: electron crystallography approaches

    Author : Yanhang Ma; Peter Oleynikov; Osamu Terasaki; Reine Wallenberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; structural analysis; electron crystallography; 3D EDT; HRTEM imaging; defects; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : The structural analysis serves as a bridge to link the structure of materials to their properties. Revealing the structure details allows a better understanding on the growth mechanisms and properties of materials, and a further designed synthesis of functional materials. READ MORE
