  1. 1. The Discourse and Practice of Constructive Journalism

    Author : Joy Kibarabara; Christian Christensen; Anna Roosvall; Karen McIntyre; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Constructive Journalism; Critical Political Economy; Cultural Studies; Mixed Methods; Journalistic Role Conceptions; Socially Responsible Journalism; Journalism; journalistik;

    Abstract : This dissertation critically interrogates constructive journalism for the purposes of developing, enhancing and contextualizing related theory and practice. Constructive journalism is an emerging approach that aims for societal well-being by covering stories about progress, achievement and collaboration as much as stories about devastation, corruption and conflict. 2. 2. Quasi-instantaneous and Long-term Deformations of High-Performance Concrete with Some Related Properties

    Author : Bertil Persson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shrinkage; Relative humidity; Long-term; Hydration; High-Performance Concrete; Elastic modulus; Deformations; Creep; Concrete; Cement; Quasi-instantaneous; Strength; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : This report outlines an experimental and numerical study on quasi-instantaneous and long-term deformations of High-Performance Concrete, HPC, with some related properties. For this purpose about two hundred small cylinders and about one thousand cubes of eight types of HPC were cast. The age at loading varied between 18h and 28 days. READ MORE

  3. 3. Toward Realistic Failure Evaluations for Concrete Buttress Dams

    Author : Jonas Enzell; Anders Ansell; Erik Nordström; Andreas Sjölander; Richard Malm; Leif Lia; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; concrete dams; buttress dams; stability analysis; dam failure behavior; physical model tests; FEM; betongdammar; lamelldammar; stabilitetsanalys; dammbrott; fysiska modellförsök; FEM; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Abstract : Concrete dams, complex structures supporting massive loads, have traditionally been assessed using simplified 2D analytical stability analyses based on the rigid body assumption. Previous studies have shown that 3D behavior, such as the interaction between the monoliths and the valley's geology, can greatly impact the load-bearing capacity of gravity dams but remains largely unexplored in buttress dams. 4. 4. A systems approach to ice loads on concrete dams

    Author : Rikard Hellgren; Richard Malm; Anders Ansell; Erik Nordström; Pierre Legér; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ice loads; Ice pressure; Dam safety; Concrete dams; Cold regions; Monitoring; Measurements; Concrete Structures; Betongbyggnad;

    Abstract : Dams are mainly used for the storage of water to electricity production and irrigation, or for river regulation. Continuous work to assure a high dam safety level is a prerequisite to minimize the risk for the uncontrolled release of water. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional Properties of Concrete Roads - Development of an Optimisation Model and Studies on Road Lighting Design and Joint Performance

    Author : Malin Löfsjögård; KTH; []
    Keywords : concrete; roads; functional properties; optimisation model; road lighting; joint performance;

    Abstract : The roads constitute a major part of the nation’sinfrastructure. For the society and the individuals it isimportant with a well functioning road network. To sustain theimpact from traffic intensity and heavy loads durable pavementsare demanded. READ MORE
