  1. 1. Analysis and improvement of risk assessment methodology for offshore energy installations : Aspects of environmental impact assessment and as-built subsea cable verification

    Author : Andreas Olsson; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; DST; Decision Support Tools; subsea cables; statistical method; environmental risk; risk of accidents; Systemteknik; Systems Engineering;

    Abstract : In the expansion of offshore sustainable energy systems, there is growing pressure on the environment and permit processes and the accumulation results in much higher total risk for accidents of future assets. Anticipating the problems at the design stage and improving verification is likely to increase energy development and reduce costs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Microbial biofilm communities associated with degradation of sprayed concrete in subsea tunnels

    Author : Sabina Karacic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine environment; subsea tunnels; surface structure; biofilm; steel fibers; metagenomics.; microbially induced deterioration; amplicon sequencing; concrete;

    Abstract : Deterioration of concrete leads to reduced structural strength implying high societal challenge with huge economic impact. In the Oslofjord subsea tunnel, complex microbial biofilm activity together with abiotic attack from saline groundwater are responsible for concrete matrix degradation and steel fiber corrosion. 3. 3. Microbially induced concrete degradation in subsea tunnels - Community structure of biofilms from sprayed reinforced concrete in the Oslofjord tunnel

    Author : Sabina Karacic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microbial community structure; concrete deterioration; biocorrosion; 16S rRNA gene sequences; biofilm; subsea tunnel;

    Abstract : Microbially induced concrete deterioration has been discovered in several Norwegian subsea tunnels with significant disintegration of the calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and steel fibre corrosion in areas with leakages of saline groundwater. Complex microbial biofilm activity together with abiotic attack from saline ground water, with high concentrations of Cl−, SO42−, Mg2+ and HCO3−, are responsible for the degradation in the specific subsea tunnel environment. 4. 4. Medium Voltage Generation System with Five-level NPC Converters for Kite Tidal Power

    Author : Georgios Mademlis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Voltage balancing; Maximum Power Point Tracking MPPT ; Medium Voltage Converters; Multilevel Space-Vector-Modulation; Neutral point clamped converter NPC ; Subsea kite; Tidal power;

    Abstract : Offshore power generation has emerged as a prominent source of energy and the installed capacity of new plants has been steadily increasing in recent years. Tidal power specifically is a promising renewable energy source which has not been highly exploited yet, despite its distinctive advantages of being predictable and independent of weather conditions. 5. 5. Thermal Study of a Submerged Substation for Wave Power

    Author : Antoine Baudoin; Cecilia Boström; Didier Saury; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wave power; marine substation; heat transfer; natural convection; CFD; FEM; thermal management;

    Abstract : At the Division of Electricity of Uppsala University, a wave power concept is being developed.It relies on wave energy converters, one buoy and one linear generator placed on the seabed, connected together to a submerged substation. The mechanical design is kept as simple as possible to ensure reliability. READ MORE
