    Abstract : UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases provide the primary mechanism for de novo synthesis of UDP-sugars, which can then be used for myriads of glycosyltranferase reactions, producing cell wall carbohydrates, sucrose, glycoproteins and glycolipids, as well as many other glycosylated compounds. The pyrophosphorylases can be divided into three families: UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase (UGPase), UDP-sugar pyrophosphorylase (USPase) and UDP-N-acety lglucosamine pyrophosphorylase (UAGPase), which can be discriminated both by differences in accepted substrate range and amino acid sequences. READ MORE

    Abstract : The positron emitting 68Ga radionuclide (T1/2 = 68 min) has the potential of practical interest for clinical PET. The metallic cation, 68Ga3+, is suitable for complexation reactions with chelators either naked or conjugated with macromolecules such as peptides and oligonucleotides. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies towards late blight control in potato

    University dissertation from Department of Biology, Lund University

    Author : Laith Moushib; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oomycetes; plant induced resistance; sustainable agriculture; plant defence activators; plant innate immunity; potato; late blight;

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in English Plant diseases are directly associated with food security because they result in severe reduction of plant yield and thus they add to the scarcity of foods in the world, which can lead to negative repercussions on humankind. Late blight disease that severely hit Ireland in 1840s, which was caused by Phytophthora infestans and is mentioned in the historical records as the Irish Famine, can be a testimony of the involvement of plant pathogens in human tragedies and shaping the history of humankind. Abstract : Pancreatic β-cells sense the concentration of glucose in the systemic circulation through metabolism of the sugar molecule. Failure to correlate the blood sugar concentration to an appropriate metabolic signal disrupts the function of the β-cell as a controller of glucose homeostasis and may contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
