  1. 1. Glycosaminoglycan Biosynthesis and Function in Zebrafish Development : Sugars Shaping Skeletons

    Author : Judith Habicher; Johan Ledin; Per Erik Ahlberg; Marion Kusche-Gullberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) and chondroitin/dermatan sulfate (CS/DS) proteoglycans are glycosylated proteins with important roles in animal development and homeostasis. HS and CS/DS are long, linear glycosaminoglycan (GAG) polysaccharides and attached to a core protein they form proteoglycans. READ MORE

  2. 2. Probing Dynamics of Oligosaccharides by Interference Phenomena in NMR Relaxation

    Author : Leila Ghalebani; Jozef Kowalewski; Norbert Mueller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NMR; sugars; oligosaccharides; carbon-13 relaxation; cross-correlated relaxation; molecular dynamics; internal motion; random jumps; PRE; paramagnetic relaxation; Chemistry; Kemi; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Oligosaccharides (carbohydrates) are a large class of biological molecules that are important as energy sources in the human body and have enormously varied biological functions. It is generally believed that biological activities of carbohydrates are related to their internal dynamics. READ MORE

  3. 3. Synchrotron radiation studies of gas phase molecules : from hydrogen to DNA sugars

    Author : Gemma Vall-llosera; Elisabeth Rachlew; Stacey Sorensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; KTH thesis; synchrotron radiation; gas phase; bio molecules; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises experimental results on the molecular spectroscopy of gas phase molecules excited by synchrotron radiation in the VUV and soft X-ray regions. We have used three different detection techniques, photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy, photoionisation mass spectroscopy and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to study molecular deuterium, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methanol, pyridine, pyridazine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, s-triazine, and 2-deoxy-D-ribose, the last one also known as the DNA sugar. 4. 4. Synthesis and Rearrangement of Epoxy Sugars

    Author : Fritiof Pontén; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; Organic chemistry; crown ether; silica; Intramoleculaf Diels-Alder reaction; radical allylation; allyl sulfone; sugar epoxide; allyl sulfide; ring-contraction; C-glycoside; a; IMDAF; b-unsaturated aldehyde;

    Abstract : Ring-Contraction of sugar-derived epoxy alcohols, functionalised in position 1 and 6, by treatment with lithium bromide and N, N, N', N'-tetramethylurea in refluxing toluene gave enantiomerically pure a,b-unsaturated aldehydes of furanosides. O-Glycosidic epoxy alcohols gave only one, easily purified, aldehyde in approximately 30-60% yield depending on the substitution pattern. READ MORE
