  2. 2. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, a novel tracer in breast cancer surgery

    Author : Abdi-Fatah Hersi; Staffan Eriksson; Fredrik Wärnberg; Andreas Karakatsanis; Thorsten Kühn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast Cancer; superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles; SPIO; magnetic seed; magnetic surgery; sentinel node; sentinel node biopsy; nonpalpable; ductal carcinoma in situ; DCIS; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : The most common surgical choice of treatment in breast cancer is breast-conserving surgery (BCS) together with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SNB). Around 10% of breast cancer diagnosis are ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIO) are a novel tracer for sentinel lymph node (SN) detection. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Utility of Ultrasmall Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Contrast Agents for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Author : Lars Johansson; Håkan Ahlström; Hans-Jørgen Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiology; Magnetic resonance imaging; Contrast agent; Iron Oxide; Cardiovascular; Radiologisk forskning; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the utility of the Ultrasmall Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Particle (USPIO), NC100150 Injection for assessment of macro- and microvascular morphology and function using magnetic resonance imaging. The feasibility of NC100150 Injection was tested for the following applications: Coronary angiography, Thrombus detection, Cardiac function, Myocardial perfusion, Assessment of myocardial blood volume and water exchange and finally assessment of endothelial integrity of the myocardium. 4. 4. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) as a multimodality imaging probe for sentinel nodes : Design and Preclinical Evaluation

    Author : Renata Madru; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : iron oxide; nanoparticles; SPIONs; PET-MRI; SPECT-MRI; SPECT-MRI- optical imaging; sentinel lymph node; SNL;

    Abstract : Breast cancer and malignant melanoma disseminate through the lymphatic system and the first metastases arise in one or two regional, sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) draining the primary tumour site. Therefore, identification and characterization of the SLNs is of major importance for cancer staging and for choice of therapy in patients. READ MORE

  5. 5. Following nanoparticle self-assembly in real-time : Small-angle X-ray scattering and quartz crystal microbalance study of self-assembling iron oxide nanocubes

    Author : Martin Kapuscinski; Lennart Bergström; Niklas Hedin; Andrei Petukhov; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembly; mesocrystal; time-resolved; small-angle X-ray scattering; iron oxide nanocubes; QCM-D; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Self-assembly of nanoparticles is a widely used technique to produce nanostructured materials with crystallographic coherence on the atomic scale, i.e. mesocrystals, which can display useful collective properties. This thesis focusses on the underlying mechanism and dynamics of mesocrystal formation by using real-time techniques. READ MORE
