  1. 1. Orientation and Conformation of Single Macromolecules on Unmodified and Functionalized Surfaces

    Author : Magnus Bergkvist; David Cullen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Atomic Force Microscopy; protein orientation; protein adsorption; surface derivatization; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; Surface Biotechnology; ytbioteknik;

    Abstract : In this thesis methods for investigation of orientation and conformation of individual macromolecules on surfaces are presented as well as novel methods for functionalization of silicon chips with the possibility to get an ordered immobilization of antibodies. Two novel methods are presented which makes it possible to investigate the orientation of individual macromolecules on different kinds of surfaces with AFM. READ MORE

  2. 2. Utilizing Solid Phase Cloning, Surface Display And Epitope Information for Antibody Generation and Characterization

    Author : Francis Jingxin Hu; Johan Rockberg; John McCafferty; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; antibody engineering; antibody affinity maturation; combinatorial protein engineering; epitope mapping; FACS; HER2; complement C5; Staphylococcal surface display; surface display.; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Antibodies have become indispensable tools in diagnostics, research and as therapeutics. There are several strategies to generate monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) in order to avoid the drawbacks of polyclonal antibodies (pAbs) for therapeutic use. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of electrode material and stochastic factors on the performance and microbial community assembly in microbial electrochemical systems

    Author : Marie Abadikhah; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : Microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) are systems with microbial communities in the form of biofilms on electrode surfaces. The electrogenic bacteria in the anode biofilm act as catalysts for the oxidization of organic compounds, leading to release of electrons, generation of electrical current, and production of hydrogen and methane at the cathode. 5. 5. Direct observation of biomolecule adsorption and spatial distribution of functional groups in chromatographic adsorbent particles

    Author : Anders Ljunglöf; Abraham Lenhoff; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Confocal microscopy; confocal Raman spectroscopy; protein adsorption; ligand distribution; visualization; imaging; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; Surface Biotechnology; ytbioteknik;

    Abstract : Confocal microscopy has been used as a tool for studying adsorption of biomolecules to individual chromatographic adsorbent particles. By coupling a fluorescent dye to protein molecules, their penetration into single adsorbent particles could be observed visually at different times during batch uptake. READ MORE
