6. Designing to Support Workspace Awareness in Remote Collaboration using 2D Interactive Surfaces
Abstract : Increasing distributions of the global workforce are leading to collaborative workamong remote coworkers. The emergence of such remote collaborations is essentiallysupported by technology advancements of screen-based devices ranging from tabletor laptop to large displays. READ MORE

7. Formation stability and electronic structure of surfaces and interfaces from first principles
Abstract : This thesis deals with two closely interwoven aspects of first-principle(density functional theory) materials modeling:(1)~prediction of atomic structure & chemical composition, and (2)~prediction of electronic properties. In the first part, we focus on atomic structure (AS) and chemical composition (CC) of surface and interface systems. 8. X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy on Nano-Magnet Arrays and Thin Films : Magnetism and Structure
Abstract : The magnetic and structural properties of nano magnet arrays and ferromagnetic thin films are investigated. Circular x-rays are used and extensive use is made in this Thesis of the X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) technique. By means of the XMCD magneto-optic sum rules the values of the orbital and spin moments are determined. READ MORE

9. Fundamentals of Polyethylene Composites for HVDC Cable Insulation – Interfaces and Charge Carriers
Abstract : Power transmission over long distances by using high voltage direct current (HVDC) cables is important for the transition from fossil energy to using renewable energy sources, e.g. wind, solar and water. READ MORE

10. Nonlinear Interaction Between Ultrasonic Waves and Cracks and Interfaces
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the development of new ultrasound inspection techniques for detection of cracks that are smaller than the wavelength of the inspecting wave and the characterization of cracks in fluid-filled pipes as either surface-breaking or subsurface. The spectrum of the scattered field of a partially closed crack comprises harmonic components not expected to be found in the case of linear scatterers such as pores or inclusions. READ MORE
